Just finished watching HorsePower TV and they did a engine swap from a gsr to a standard civic. They said the whole thing will cost around 4000 with engien swap and all the other stuff. Whats funny they only gained around 50 HP. I guesse we are lucky. We spend 3000 grand on a turbo and we gain 140 + hp. CIVICS sux

exactly...its a downward spiral..lots of people have civics so more support is put into production of aftermarket parts, newgroups, magazines, etc., so then everyone wants to get a civic, and as more people get them the aftermarket support increases, wich makes more people want civics...and so on.

^^^dont you mean upward sprial?? if it was downward that would mean the civics lose popularity and then the aftermarket gradually drops them out. yea, that new import tuner show on TNN sux. i watched it one time. they were installing some coilovers on a civic (go figure) and they didnt even go through the process. they said "were gonna install some coilovers" and they sped up the camera to ludicrous speed and was done in about 30 seconds. i mean come on, whats the entire point of haivng the show if your not gonna show any installation???

i have to totally agree. as much as i HATE honda's, they're what was and is keeping the import scene alive and kicking.

I have read the "claims" of 13 and 12 sec ALL MOTOR hondas. H22, B18 swaps, turbo, etc. How much does it take to make a Honda fast? I know at the end of the day..."It's still a Honda" but what would be your defense against one of these modded Honda guys...Not the ricers cause we can easily make this into the longest thread in 2GNT history...:rolleyes Your comments please?

I dont car how fast Civics or integras are they just outright suck! I saw on a street race mpeg the other day on the net and a civic raced a c-5 corvette and beat it not by much but it beat it. Bt i dont give a shit I still wouldn't take the civic if someone gave it to me. Wait yes I would there are so many morons out there I would Part it out to all the stupid people in this world and dump it into my eclipse.

you forget though they gain 50 HP and are starting fresh ie the engine is stock and will gain much more HP when modded. I am sorry but honda's are kick some ass at the strip and you can't deny that.........the street is another story though. You can all say honda's suck but they can still be made fast for cheap (not as cheap as a turbo dsm though) ohh yeah I am sorry but put an all motor eclipse up against an all motor civic and the eclipse will get killed. My good buddy is running high 14's NA with an old vtec hatchback (sohc vtec) with very minimal mods and stock internals. I have also seen 12-13 sec NA hondas so its not just claims (last years sport comp nationals at norwalk raceway)

uhhhh, id have to disagree. they *MAY* have gotten it to where it is, but they have NO idea what they are doing now. aleins must have been in or are now in control. b/c they goin down the crapper. i mean they made like 2 years of honest to god Si....then the make the new one, did they realize what they had was a real car and had to remedy the situation?

and if youve not noticed.... most companies ONLY make honda shit, and not even for the GOOD honda (prelude). they pass by nissan, toyota, DSMers, domestic rice, the whole group. so that doesnt seem to keep the import scene alive... seems to keep honda alive.

honda = lack of torque a tard could complain about.
VTEC = attempt to cure above.

not to mention it seems more and more in honda nature to deny grassroots modders any chance in hell to make power. extra cash spent on crap like having to sleeve the block for turboing or good amounts of n2o isnt something id waste my time/money on. just as expensive as a built bottom end to get it READY for the built bottom....piss on that.

this topic should be moved

50 HP isn't bad, 4k though that's a lotta dough, might as well spend that 4k plopping a turbo into that honda. er only gain like 60 HP from a turbo also well b4 your finger gets itchy and plays with the boost setting.

my friend with a modded gst(stock turbo) said he got beat by a newer modded prelude after his top of third gear. He said the top end of that honda was unbelievable. also those new accord coupes are supposedly coming out with a manual tranny. 240 with a manual tranny is some serious shit there.

yeah, but its an accord.... it can't ever be as agile as anything smaller. stick or not, bleh is the new honda scheme.

yeah what you said about preludes top end..... omg true. that motor SCREAMS once in VTEC. my hommie has one, bone stock and still beats modded Si.... thats a real honda

I don't care if a honduh does beat me or does have a 12.9 sec 1/4 mile slip on a NA car...(Yes, I have a friend who runs 12's, i've watched it)...at the end of the day you still drive an enclosed lawn mower. I hate those sardine can pieces of shit!

My gf picked up a 97 ex about a month ago and it's fun to drive and reliable. It's a marketing scheme. You buy a honda (usualy civic) and it's not expensive to fix or upgrade. Engine swap will probably be the only expensive thing besides a turbo. But considering how vtec works, it's just an easy up hill ride with modding it. I would not mind at all having a civic as a beater or daily driver.

I have a 92 civic VX hatch as a beater and it is a good car. It has 300k on the odometer and it is as reliable as ever and, gets twice the fuel milege as my talon. My little sister has a 91 SI and it is definately faster than the talon With the usual H,I,E mods and handles great with springs and shocks. I think Hondas are grat cars they just dont have the style and looks od the dsm's.
BTW it would not cost $4k for a Gsr swap more like 2 or 3K.

If you guys are serious about Hondas, performance and potential read Sport Compact Car April 03, page 142. Four Civics. 3 all motor, 1 turbo. As much as I hate to admit, they are fast. So much, if you hate them like me, you'll be like...How!. The NA's run B20 motors; the turbo a B18C1. I'm just sick of typing it, if you must find out read it. To me, like I said before, "It's still a Honda." :nono Later.
