I recently saw a front mount CAI in a magazine. Does anyone know if these are made for our cars? I thought the concept was interesting, kinda like ram-air (it would also make my slow-ass auto look like it had a turbo:-) ).

yes they make them for us, but imagine this, driving in the expressway in heavy rain with a semi in front of you spashing every bit of water into the front of your car, suck, squish, bang! dead motor, theyre too expensive to begin with, just get an aem for that price

The company you are talking about is AEROSPEED the do make applications for our cars. The thing is, that it has a shield you put on to protect it from rain, and debrees when your normal driving. If you race you take the cover off.

I think that they are kind of neat, but I would rather get a AEM instead, they make the new AEM V2 Intakes for the Eclipse now, that is what I am going to get.

I'm not so sure that's a good idea. I'm going to have to side with the "rock, water, boom" theory.


One thing to try though, is getting the CAI, and if it doesn't extend down, buy a piece of either PVC (ghetto) or a steel hardpipe and extend the pipe (beyond the filter) down in front of either the center opening or, as in a 97-99, to the side "intake" holes in the facia.


This way, you can make a make-shift ram-air system. Just be sure the air gets filtered and NOT a few inches off the ground. In theory, you could probably get a good bit of cold air flowing through the pipe. I haven't done it though, going forced induction soon.

Just a little antsy about sticking something as critical as an air filter out into the environment... "lovebug season" would involve me picking those little bastards out of my filter every few hours.

Too long and too many bends for just an intake. I'd say that new AEM v2 looks pretty nice! $5 says it will give more hp then the gay front mount intake.

yeah it does seem too long, i bet youd have some major intake lag with that :+

That intake looks good, at least on my friends civic, but IMO is horrible. Having your filter out in front of your car like that is bad mojo, IMO. Plus if you put a shield over it, wouldn't that sort of defeat the purpose of having it there? :P Stick with an ebay CAI with a K&N, or spring the mucho extra dinero for the AEM V2 or whatever. With either of them two you will not be dissappointed :thumbsup

I have a piece of dryer hose running from my fascia and it works ok, but since the hose isn't sealed to the filter, it doesn't have much of a ram-air effect, it just helps get cooler air to the intake. I'm thinking of sealing the hose to the end of my filter, but the water issue makes me a bit wary. I already have an ebay intake, didn't see much of a difference except at the top end. I need to upgrade from the the piece-of-shit filter it came with.

Oh, great! All of the cooling issues associated with a front mount intercooler (and then some), but without having a pesky turbo in the way of the exhaust.
Sorry, not impressed here.
This filter just blocks airflow to the radiator, and doesn't really do anything that a regular CAI doesn't. At the least, a FMIC flows air through it, so it isn't so much of an obstruction as this filter.
