ok, well i go out to start my car, and its not too cold, but it dosent really matter what temp it is..my car does it anyways. when i start my car i have to give it some gas after it catches and hold it at about 1500-2000RPM and let it get all "warmed up" just so it will idle half way, or else it just shakes and stalls out. when it does get kinda warmed up tho it still idles very low, around 500-700 RPM. driving is fine, no prob there untill i go to stop, then it wants to stall out on me or nearly stall out. me and my friend pulled the lil hose off the very top of the TB...the one that runs back along the firewall and down into somewhere in the passenger side. its the only lil vacume hose up there on the TB. where does this go?? and what does it do? when we pulled it off it did idle higher, but when we went to put the hose back on it would try to stall out, or go back to idling very low. after a while it will run and idle ok, but thats after about 10 minutes. i tried following the hose and think it runs into the lil box there in the lower part of the passenger side engine bay. it runs through a lil peice of metal. it goes to a steel line for a while, and i could take off my sidemarket light and see 2 hoses that go from steel into rubber again. what is this lil box dealy they run into?? for some reason the box it "ticking" and yes im sure its the box cuz i got right up next to it and could hear it. any ideas?? is there some valve in there or something?? i pulled my plugs and they had alot of black on them which means im running rich. is my engine running too rich?? is that why its idling so crappy? for some reason i think it has to do with that lil black box under the bumper on the pass side...or could this be an upstream o2 sensor problem??? i havent gotten any CEL's. please help, this is really frustrating. i took an hour today with the engine idling and still couldent really track down anything. points to whoever helps out, thanks alot!

That vacuum line runs to the EVAP solenoid valve. Do you have a CEL? It almost sounds to me like you IAC(idle air controller) is busted.

When you say that you removed the vacuum line - did you plug it on the TB side or did you just leave it open? If you left it open, then you've created a vacuum leak - and yes a vacuum leak will make the car idle higher. If you plugged it, then it could have something to do with the EVAP system.

yea, sorry, i guess i didnt specify alot. when i took off the vacume line i just left the TB nipple un plugged so yea, i had a vac leak, i know it idles high when i do that. when i put my finger over the TB nipple it acts in the same manner as it does when i slap on the vac line...barley running and wanting to stall out alot. im clueless. i may try the IAC. it just seems that there is a prob with the vac line or something attatched to it. as stated earlier, the box that the vac line runs to "ticks"...it never did this before. should i be able to blow or suck air though the vac line that runs to the TB? anyways, still same problem, need a solution.

The IAC is responsable for setting the idle. When you turn the key its supposed to pull back - letting as much air as possible through the idle port. When you start the car - it hunts for the right position to give you proper idle. If the idle is high it pushes out(creating less vacuum leak through the idle port), if it's low it pulls back(creating more vacuum leak through the idle port). Flat out it just sounds like it's not working. I'm surprised you're not getting a CEL. I would try replacing the IAC.
