My Eclipse has gone 120K without a timing belt change, and I know that it is living on borrowed time. I don't have five hundred bucks to shell out, so I wanted to know how easy it is to install your own timing belt. Has anyone here changed their own belt?

check around, it might not be 500, i just got my valve cove gasket and timing belt, etc. changed and it was only 328.

It would be a REALLY good idea to change it. I know cause I didn't change mine and it broke and cost my $2200 to fix the engine. I've heard some say that it is really hard and some say its not that bad. If you need cash you can always get a payday loan.

hudy, if you got your engine fixed for $2200, why didn-t you just get a bran new engine with 0 miles or go cyclone with ecu and only spend $1900?

man for all parts to install my cam gears and udp it cost 350...must be one nice thing about living in ohio.

Actually, the timing belt is the only thing on the car that hasn't broken yet. In four months, the altenator died twice, the horn, sunroof, power locks, serpitine belt, and catalyic converter all crapped out. I can't tweak my car when all my money is spent just to keep it running.
Thanks for the info though. I guess I'll just let the professionals handle the belt.
