I need help. I have a 95 eclipse 2.0 nt and am rebuilding the head. My question is when I am installing the camshaft on the right closest to the intake on the rear is there a seal that goes there or not. I have looked at the CAPS and did not see one there but then it shows the cam farthest from you is the one with the cam sensor on it, but the manual I have shows a half moon seal that goes there. Then I went to the dealer and he said it's free floating and that it just goes in there by itself with sealer going in along the bottom. I never remember seeing a seal on it. Any help would be appreciated so I can get this puppy back on the road.

This is more for a bump, but I think that half moon thingy is referred to as the "semi cricular packing." It's on the old 1.8L. On the 420A, that cam sensor is on the front cam, driver's side. Not the back. Chilton's mentions/shows caps on the ends, but no seal. BTW, wouldn't you remember a seal if you took it apart? Good luck.

At the timing belt side of the cams, there is a round oil seal that goes into the head, and fits into the last bearing cap, on each cam. Also, on the last bearing cap on the timinng belt side, you need to use some black RTV sealant on the outer edge of the bottom side of the bearing cap, where it mates to the block. Thats the only thing sealing the bearing cap-to-head. On the opposite side of the cams, driver side, there are no oil seals there. You once again need some RTV on the outer bearing cap for an oil seal, and on the exaust cam, the cap position sensor is what seals the oil on that. On the backside of the sensor, there is a small o ring that seals against the head.

after you put your car back together you should let it idle for an hour if possible or as long as close to an hour as possible.
