I'm not really sure, but I've always been told to just tighten them by hand...not too tight though. Also, use some anti-sieze (spelling?) so they are easy to get off next time.

spread a little antisieze arround it andspin it in by hand....then take it til its snug then just a little more.. nothing special

IIRC, it's like 18-20 ft./lbs of torque.

Don't forget your anti-seize.

you guys always talk about anti-seize.. that cracks me up.. i've never had a problem with getting an old plug out ;) and i never use anti-seize, but i probably just screwed myself by making that statement.. haha.

Ever since on my 1st car, I have never used anti-seize on the plug threads, got no problem taking them out. Thanks for the replies guys!!!!

I pulled the plugs out of a cavalier, and the very end of the thread broke off in the head. SHIT! it was THAT stuck in there.

use anti-seize. you don't even want to hear the rest of the story on how to get that shit out.

My antiseize is the oil at the bottom of the plug wells :)

If you use a wrench to tighten your plugs... There is a little compression ring at the end of the plug. As long as the plug is new, you can feel the compression ring compress, the you know your tight. For all other times Chiltons says 16lbs for our car... But if the Mitsubishi Service Manual says 18 - 20 go with that.
