ok, i was noticing the other night (well, kinda always noticed) that in both ford rangers that my friend had (89 and 99) that when he really gets on it his clutch kinda has a slingshot effect to it. he dosent shift or clutch any different than anyone else, just basically clutch shift clutch out...nothing special. i notice tho that when he starts letting off the clutch it really shoots the truck foward pretty fast. in any other car (including mine) the clutch dosent have the same effects...and both his clutches were completely stock, he didnt fix it up any. not that im saying i had any problem smoking him, but i just wondered, are there any clutches with that effect for our cars. probably sounds confusing, but dont relaly know how else to explain it. and i mean he dosent have to really punch it when he lets off the clutch, it just kinda engages more quickly, but his clutch is not much harder to depress than mine. any info would be great!

There's a link to "Clutch restrictor mod" in the mods section. The link doesn't seem to be working right now...but basically there is a restrictor somewhere in the hydraulic clutch line. The restrictor's job is to "slow down" clutch engagement. When you remove the restrictor the clutch engagement follows the pedal movement directly. I haven't done this one, but I've thought about doing it. I forget exacly where the restrictor is, it's somewhere between the master and slave cylinder(if that helps any).

Maybe his truck doesn't have a clutch restrictor?

can anyone who has done the restrictior mod shed more light on the subject?? did you experience thigs like what i described?

it could be the pressureplate lcamp load and the way his clutch engauges because therangers use a wd01 pressure plate hat is pretty high in clamp load and also adjustable...

so it could be it jsut hooks up beter where as yours does not being only 1400# clamp load,


the resitor could do it tooo

My bet is on a heavier flywheel. I bet that it loses fewer revs between shifts, maybe to the extent that the revs were above what they were to settle down to in the next gear. This would cause the inertia of the ratational mass to pull the vehicle up to a higher speed, and meeting somewhere in the middle.
