Ok guys here is what im doin and would appreciate any comments. I ordered a few parts exhaust (apexi n1 catback), cai (aem cold air intake) and final drive mod. Im gonna get it put on and i have a 98 RS with 70k and havent done the 60k service yet. I plan to go down there get the bolt ons put on and get a tuneup, flush radiator, get fan belt checked, thermostate, thats it. What else would i have to do ? The timing belt too right but i think ima wait on that for it bit will it be ok adding all this stuff or should i all the 60k service before since im at 70k 40,000 of the miles were drivin by a lady not me =) and she was an ez driver im a kinda scary driver kick it in a lot get like 16/17 mpg most the time =) hehe thx for any input

What exactly is the final drive mod? I checked the "Things We've Seen Before," but every time I click one of the links, it just takes me back to the main forums page. So can anyone tell me what it is, or how to see the old posts. I have it set so I can see all the posts, not just the new ones.

well, all of the maintence you listed is either obsolite or easily accomplished by yourself in 10 minutes. theres no reason to get your thermostat inspected unless your overheating. i always thought we had electric fans, not belt-driven ones..can anyone else jump in here? flushing the radiator is increadibly simple, the drain plug is right underneath the radiator at the front of the car.

i think the timing belt should be your number one priority. if that thing breaks, theres no option than to rebuild the engine (well, you MIGHT get lucky, but its doubtfull). make sure the tensioner and water pump is replaced at the same time.....you might as well do it while your in there.

fan belt...yes we have electric fans....the final drive mod is like takin a mustang or any rear wheel drive car and changin the gear ratio ..it lowers the gear ratios...i hope i helped out...the higher gears(lower number)give u more top end lower gears(higher numbers)give u more bottom end(take off) lol...

get that timing belt(and water pump) changed asap, those milage wear indicators are no joke. i had a timing belt break as i hit the exact miles needed to have it changed 2 cars ago. 60k is alot sooner than other cars, it sux, but ur engine isn't worth risking.

Ok thx, so what price should i bet on and 60k service is the water pump, timing belt, tensioner is that it? How much would u guys bet for the stuff and installation i was thinkin aroudn 400-500? maybe i dont know much hope its not more lol because i just spent half my money on parts. Ohh yah and do i have to get it done at the dealship or can i just get it done at the place im getting tune up etc. its just a body shop.

Most shops seem it necessary to charge an assload to change the TB. you also have the timing tensioner, pulley, and bearings to worry about too. i would DEFINITELY get the timing belt changed. a local guy around here only charges 100 bucks to do it, and thats pretty damn fair. the dealer will want like 600.

Definately want to get that timing belt and the like swapped out. If you have the funds I wouuld suggest some cam gears as a little upgrade while you are in there.

Ok ill check into the cam gears what kind should i get and how much will it cost for them and then installation? So then should i not go to the dealership for the 60k? Should i just get a regular body shop to do it for me.

If you are not going to do it yourself, go to a trusted mechanic, dealership whoever, some on eyou trust... not really work I would have a body shop do. Cam Gears, best for the cheapest would be Fidanzas at Howell Auto, you can get better ones for more money, like Crane, or Crowers when out.

Ok, sorry im stupid but what do the cams do increase hp? or what do they help with just inform me plz and can u quote me like a price range because i have no clue on prices and should i go for the crower's since u said they are better.

Get the cam gears and ALSO an underdrive pully, it will be essentially a free install changing ur timing belt, go for the afx underdrive pully.... Satan here in philly asked for 1100 bucks for a timing belt change and new water pump. These are the same guys that took 2 hrs with me helping them out find a vapor hose on their computer to order for my throttle body.

well yes the timming gears can give you some hp. If anything give you what you SHOULD have. Due to manufacturing tollerences (sp?) your engine comes out of the factory producing less hp (some times more = freak engines) then it was designed to. The gears simply allow you to correct thise somewhat. Also, it should help smooth out your engines operation, just have to tune them right. You can tune for torque or more top end hp.

besides robots arnt perfect. Seen a honda engine with a valve spring in backward....crazy hugh?
