This is my first time posting on this forum. I've been reading some of the threads and archives over the past week or so, and I'm impressed by the passion and knowledge a lot of you have concerning your cars. I also found some of the terminology to be pretty funny. The "satan" stuff kills me! :7 I just ask that you guys take it easy on me because my knowledge of this technical stuff is very slim compared to what I have read. I'm also guessing I'm one of the older guys on this forum (34) so you younger guys, just remember, you'll be as old as I am someday too. But hey, you're only as old as you feel.
I'm somewhat envious of the knowledge expressed here, but to be honest, I just don't have the time, tools, nor the knowledge to work on my car like most of you do. Everyone has their passion, and it's cool that you guys are passionate about your cars. Who better to ask for advice than the people who are passionate about what they do? That's why I'm glad I found this forum. Hopefully I can gain more knowledge about my car and not be stabbed by satan!
I owned a 91 GS for about 4 years until someone rear ended it and totalled it. After that, I got a 95 GS (non turbo) and currently have 182+k miles on it. In the beginning, my car served to impress my girlfriend. I guess it worked somewhat since she married me and we now have a 2 year old daughter. Now my car serves mainly as my transportation to/from work since I'm an old married fart now. My drive puts about 100 miles on the car 5 days/week. I love these cars and that's why I've been driving one for the last 12 years!
OK, enough biography and BS. Recently, we had subzero weather overnight and the next morning my car wouldnt start. It turned over but sounded like it wasnt getting any gas or was getting too much (not firing). Since I never had this happen in the 12 years I've owned my Eclipse, I opted to have it towed to "satan" }( . They had just replaced the head gasket, plugs, and plug wires 2 months ago and told me my plugs were fouled and full of fuel. They wanted to charge me $223 to change the plugs and my oil. The prick, uh, service manager talked to me like I was a freakin' 12 year old girl when he told me I really needed my oil changed. I managed to get him to eat the plugs and labor and agreed to let them change the oil for $23. Prior to taking it to them, I did the keydance and I was getting a CEL 32. Now I'm getting 12,46,42,32,55. I realize the 12 and 55 are normal, but does anyone have any advice what to do about the others?
46 = Charging system voltage too high (Alternator drive belt/Harness and connector/Alternator) 42 = MFI relay (ASD relay) control circuit (Harness and connector/Fuel pump relay) 32 = EGR solenoid circuit (Harness and connector/Electric EGR transducer solenoid/EGR valve/EGR tube clogged/Vacuum hoses)
Sorry for the lengthy post. Thanks in advance! I appreciate any help on this.

Welcome to the board, yes this is a great board and sooo many smart people on this board.
ok code 42= its the relay located on the firewall on the drivers side, its the relay in the middle, its what gives the fuel pump voltage,etc.. you can just go to satan (dodge/chrylser is cheaper though or even better call Bob kise (see bottom for info on Bob) I would just check the harness and make sure its plugged in, if so I would just replace the relay, its not that expensive and is a vital part in starting/running the car.
Code 46, I would take it to autozone and have them do the free charging system test and see if they can find a problem with the charging system, check the alternator belts too for proper tension etc.. I would actually have them do the code scan too cause the p0xxx codes they give you are more specific than the keydance codes your using, it will just help to narrow down the problem a bit.
Code 32 (practically everyone has this code, its emission related and really isnt a big deal, it wont effect drivability at all, just emissions, If you want to fix it I would start by purchasing the solenoid/transducer (its one part) its located near the front of the engine on the drivers side, it has like 3 vacuum lines coming inand out of it, just replace the solenoid and check for clogged vacuum lines (I just remove them and blow through them) also pick up a can of mopar combustion chamber cleaner and follow the instructions on the can, that will help remove any excess buildup in the throttle body area with also has the passage for the EGR system which can clog causing your problem.
I would contact Bob Kise (a friendly dealer make sure to mention 2gnt and you get like 5% over dealer cost on all parts, Bob is great)
I would buy the ASD relay, egr solenoid/transducer and a can of the combustion chamber cleaner, this all should only take a couple minutes to swap out and wont cost you an arm and a leg from satan. Then after thats all done reconnect the battery (you should disconnect it before you start working on the car just as a safety precaution) once its hooked back up the codes hopefully should be cleared, if not keep asking us and we should be able to help.
Here is Bob Kise info Service: (810) 714-3300 talk to bob kise parts manager
Hope that helped

Wow! Thanks mcgyvr! This forum is so cool!
I noticed last night while observing my engine after satan did his work of replacing the plugs and changing my oil that there seems to be some oil slopped around the rubber caps on the plugs. This was clean oil so I'm guessing they were sloppy while doing the change. Could this be a sign of something else? Like I said, the oil seemed fresh. Also, I'm familiar with the components of the EGR system (from a photo on this forum) and I noticed that the small rigid tube that runs from the solenoid/transducer to a location behind the engine was cracked completely in two about halfway along its length! It wasnt like that prior to taking it to satan because I inspected these components before ever taking it to them! The car seems to be running fine but has a rough idle sometimes. Thanks again!:thumbsup

yeah the rough idle is most likely from the EGR tube and the vacuum leak because of the cracked tube, just get some vacuum tubing and replace that sucker, or Bob kise can sell you that tube, its pretty cheap.
That will probably fix your EGR cel so you might not need the solenoid etc.. get some vacuum hose and fix that before you buy anymore EGR stuff.
The oil around the spark plugs is probably just from them, since they did the headgasket they probably changed the valve cover gasket and the spark plug gaskets, just wipe it up and see if it comes back

yeah, don't worry about the oil. You're going to love this board, but eventually the turbo bug will bite you too :thumbsup

Actually the first Eclipse I ever test drove was a 91 turbo. At that time I just didnt want to spend the extra $$. Besides, I was 22 and my insurance wouldve been much higher. I know, whaaaa! ;( Wow, to think Eclipses were just coming out around that time! Thanks again guys for the great advice!
