Many of you know that i suffer from the rare hesitation disease:rolleyes and i just have a few more questions about some obervations ive taken. The first thing i noticed is that the car runs better when its colder. When the temp goes above 50 the car will hesitate from the start, but with the recent freezing temps, the car runs much better. Secondly, i have a slight coolant leak that is going to be fixed as soon as i have a day off/warm day. The hose is leaking on the driver side of the head, one of the two heater core hoses. Some of the coolant is dripping down on the tranny and a few wires, could this cause the hesitation? There's more, i recently replaced my coil and i think that i might have a loose connection. im going to replace the connectors when we have a warmer day around here, but just wondering about the temperature thing. I no longer have a gas smell in or around the car, and i also had the timing adjusted not too long ago at satan. I dont have a check engine light either. The car is a 95 gs with a manual tranny. Anyone have any suggestions?:wary

I had a problem when my temp sensor went bad. it would start and run really well when it was cold, but when it would warm up, it would run really rich (and forget about starting it warm). the difference is that my ecu threw a code for running rich, whereas yours hasn't, and my cooling fans would not come on,
what I'm getting at is. I wonder how bad your temp sensor has to be before your ecu goes into limp mode (default like 75 degrees)? and I wonder if it could be contributing to your problems.

The coolant shouldn't have anything to do with the start-up I don't think. Did you change the coil after it got cooler? Because I had a start-up problem few weeks ago. I had to give it some gas and hold it down for few seconds before my car turned on. But after changing it, my car starts up great. Cold/Warm, it don't matter. It WILL turn on! Have you checked your wires and plugs? Them little things make a BIG difference. Check them out! ( i don't know if answered anything..but...i tried...) :P

your ecu checks the temp while starting, to decide how much fuel to give.

you've probably already checked these things but just to make sure...
i just fixed my hesitation with new fuel filter, closing the plug gap a little and tightening the little metal cap on the plugs(that the wires snap onto) with pliers to rough up the surface for a better connection. seems each of these made significant improvements.

I recommend some dielectric grease on all spark connections (such as from the coil pack to the wire, and from the wire to the plug). This not only improves the connection electrically, but when you wait 3 years before changing your plugs again (:rolleyes) you will be able to get the wires off of the plugs.

im changing the connectors on the coil tomorrow as well as checking over the motor to see if i can come up with
anything. Please get back to me with the temp sensor. Thanks again

Update on the car. I changed the connection on the coil, no help. I checked the gap and connection with the plugs and wires, no help. Where is the coolant temp sensor located again? Anyone else have any ideas. TIA

It screws into the back of the upper intake manifold. It's right in the center - toward the firewall - with a wire plugged into it.

Could this sensor be clogged from egr crap coming back into the intake manny and not throw a code? Would it help to take it off and clean it? I really think that this is my problem with the hesitation and such. How much to replace this too?
