I've always wondered about that! Yet another thing from The Fast and the Furious that was BS! Why would you double clutch while accelerating? haha!

Performance: Stuff that makes my car run better or go faster

Looks: Stock because looks doesnt make my car go faster or run better

Weight Reduction: CF Hood, No A/C or Powersteering Accessories, No rear interior

Yea and plus you dont double clutch in drag racing....

hehe I thought that was funny in the movie as well. After I went to the track w/ my Maxima one day my buddy asked me when I told him how I did if I double clutched. I told him no, I never double clutch when going straight, his reply, "dude you should have, it probably would have dropped .5 secs right" haha if it was only so easy (*note that my buddy's only experience with modding cars is what he saw on that movie). I double clutch everyday, but only on turns.

yeah my friend with his crappy civic (automatic might i add) was like shouldn't you double clutch when racing? i'm like yeah, if i want to lose! the only time you double clutch accelerating is when your synchros are gone, or you have a semi (i think). my friend is an idiot, his only experiance with modding is putting on altezzas and windshield pisser lights.

Old cars (like from the early 50s and before that) you had to double clutch as there were no synchros in the tranny. with cars today there is no point in double clutching, the synchros take care of matching the speed on the tranny to the engine.

I mean, you COULD but it is pointless. I don't even think it is worth it to save wear on the synchros, or if you even WOULD save synchro wear (I'll have to check on that).

The only time you'd double clutch on a car today is if your synchro for a paticular gear is broken and not working (like with most 1st gen DSMs :P ) other than that, don't bohter.

But double clutching helps ease the lurch that happens when the synchros match revs for you. I mean, i've downshifted and produced enough lurch to throw myself around with the steering wheel flying.. double clutching when downshifting seems to help, especially in the form of heel-toe on turns.

I just had to comment on this. No where in the movie was it ever mentioned to double clutch "while accelerating." Didnt anyone notice how he stopped the car after the race? He spun out. He just slammed on his brakes, instead of downshifting like he should have. MAYBE Vin meant he should have double clutched when he downshifted, so that he wouldn't have spun out like he did. Just a thought.

It's just a movie where the wrong lingo was used at the wrong time, don't worry so much there about what was said inthe movie my friend.

Thanks VX! Maybe I just thought that after seeing the Eclipse shift into like 7th gear in the opening scene, and then the reverse lights being on when he "loses" it (like if the stunt driver were in reverse doing FWD donuts...)there was a healthy dose of BS stirred into the mix. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie. In fact, it was my first DVD. :7
