I want to replace the tranny in my 95 GS, and I have a few questions about using a Neon NVT-350.I found one form a 99 Neon R/T w/ 51000 miles for $350
1.Does the Eclipse NVT-350 bellhousing bolt directly to the neon tranny with no mods or fabrication?

2.Since I have a 95 eclipse,do i use my modular clutch? or do i have to buy a clutch and flywheel etc. from a Neon?

3.Will my factory shift cables hook directly to it, or do i have to scavenge some Eclipse stuff?

4.How hard is it to do this? sombody got a write up?

All the NT eclipses have the Neon R/T trannies in the 1st place same, gearing and everything, so it would be cheaper to not try to make it fit and just slap it to the Eclipse. Rather I'd just say that if you need a tranny get the right one from the jusk yard or www.car-part.com

Edit: To be plain it wouldn't be easy to bolt up the Neon tranny to the 2GNT just

Sure does, the only thing that is different between the two trannies is the bell housing. Just use the gear side of the new tranny and put your old bell housing on. But remember to change the input shaft bearing on the bell housing side before you bolt it all back up. I didn’t and that was the one bearing that went bad right after I put it all back up.

That is totally up to you. It will work w/ both no problems.

They hook to the same place but one of the shifter links has a counter weight on it that you have to cut off. you will understand when you see it. Super quick fix w/ a hacksaw.

About as hard as any tranny drop and install. Sorry no write up here.

Thanks.You guys kick ass.Oh, and skrilla I looked it up on a computer at work (bodyshop/mechanical) and it says 420a DOHC Neon tranny's have a shorter 5th gear.

Well turns out maybe I don't need a new tranny.All my syhcros are fine and no grinds, my only problem is i get a little clunk when i push the clutch in after backing up, or if i push it in when i'm under a load in first gear.Also it seems to whine a lot in all the gears.So do I just need the input shaft bearing? and maybe a clutch release fork or something? TIA

sounds like a throw out bearing

and a fluid change time

Or a bad motor mount.

How would I tell a motor mount is bad? The motor doesn't move around too much... Is it hard to replace them all with poly?

...and there are 3 forms of the 420a DOHC 420a.

Check autorader for a quick reminder. I can't scan host any of my shop books so that is the only way I can show you online. Go to research used car information and select the competition model Neon with any NT MTX 2gnt and you'll see. I've used the 5th from a competion model thinking i was different and was VERY pissed off when I found it wasn't. I had to go to a SOHC engined car for the taller (nuberically smaller) gear. I have the same final just a taller 5th for freeway cruzing. I think the new max is somewhere around 160+ but I'm not certain.

Anyway just to be clear we have the shortest available 5th in our series of trannies

I don't know if I need a trans or not.It shifts awesome, but there is a little vibration in the clutch pedal if you are high RPM's or let it out slow, the tranny whines in all gears, and the evil click/clunk reverse noise.what would cause the clutch vibration?
If i get one I think i'm gonna go for a SOHC tranny and a clutchmasters stage 2.
