42345, Temp. gauge up!?
Posted by TKI, Jan-21-03 01:51 PM
I let my car run for about 10 min. or so today, and when I went out to my car, the temp. gauge was about 3/4 of the way up, and then I touched the gas pedal, then a second later it fell down to below normal, and started acting fine.

Anyone else have this problem??

Does it do this all the time? It may have an air pocket preventing the coolant from traveling. Check the coolant level. When the car is warmed up completely, watch the fan in front of the tranny to make sure it kicks on.

I would change your thermosthat. Mine cracked in half causing it to do something similar. If some one will host a picture I will let you see. Worth the 20 bucks to replace it in my opinion.

I've changed my coolant and my thermostat and my temp guage still acts up even in the winter. Highway it's fine. Stop and it jumps up. I dunno.

i have a venge and mine does the same thing... only in the winter. however mine has gotten worse, now when i fire it up and leave it running for 15 minutes i get in and the temp gauge is very high and the heat doesn't work.. i get out on the road and the heat comes on and the gauge returns to normal.. then if i stop for a while or get into some heavy traffic the temp gauge shoots up and the heat shuts off..... i have already tried replacing the thermostat and flushing the system.. but i am going to do it again... oh and by the way the cel says the closed loop system is not reaching temp or something like that... i dunno... if anyone gets anything let us all know..

That is your coolant temp sensor. Replace it.

That sounds like what mine was doing. Because the heat wasn't good, and it was high, and then when the temp. dropped back to norm., then the heat worked.

i had to replace my coolant gauge sensor recently because when i step on the gas my pointer for the coolant temp would go down if i went over 3,000rpm or so.. i also replaced my thermostat because i had a overheating problem too.
good luck
