42171, Bad Ass Engine Posted by VsEclipse99, Jan-20-03 04:21 AM
Ok, this may require a long reply, but Im wanting to get an engine built with the top notch performance parts so that my car will be a beast... But I dont know where to starts or to what parts will give me the best benifits.. Im heading over to Afghanistan in 2 weeks and I was hoping to get someone to build me a custom bad ass engine while Im gone.. So if any of yall experts can help me out it would be greatly appreciated... the more information i can get about engines the better...thanks guys..

depends on what kinda power you wanna get out of the deal. You can achieve around 300 whp rather easily from just bolt ons and a good turbo set up. If you want mo powa :thumbsup then you may wanna look into the 2.4l swap that is the latest and greatest thing to do. I know of a few people that are hitting huge numbers. And i know for a fact one that hit nearly 500 whp.

I've been reading this board for about 6 months and I still don't have any idea of what all it takes.
Here are the basics I know.
Turbo....higher stages, more HP, more shit you have to upgrade. Bolt-ons, NA....you aren't going anywhere except in debt. 2.4....if you aren't sure about stuff, don't even consider it.
If I was gonna build a bad-ass engine (and I had the money) I'd get a 2.2l stroker from Howell and put a big ass turbo on it with FMIC and all the little nick-nacks you need to make it run smooth. Plus head work, valve train work, bla bla bla....I could spend $12000 easy but I don't have it :)

i cant give you much advice on engine building, but i just want to remind you that it IS a FWD car, so dont ignot everything post-engine. our transmissions are fairly crappy, and axles can snap pretty easily on a good launch, plus youll need suspention upgrades and good tires to keep you from just squeeling the tires at take-off.

Oh. Well if you already have a turbo - build up the internals. JE or Wiseco pistons. Some stronger rods. Something that wont break when you turn up the boost.
Then once you have built internals....
I'm not sure, but the Star fuel system(rising rate FPR) should be safe for a few more pounds of boost on the stock injectors. Maybe someone could answer this? You could probably search for that. I'm sure it has been discussed. You could also get an S-AFC and upgrade the injectors if you need more power and want to stick with 4 injectors. However IMHO - the most bad ass fuel system is an 8 injector setup. It allows you to switch over to a 1:1 riser instead of a x:1 riser, so it keeps the fuel pressure in a sane range and allows you to pretty much get as much fuel as you need. I'm building one with 390cc injectors in the secondary rail(625cc overall) - it'll support 450hp without putting the injectors over 80% duty cycle.

well if u ahve a stage 2,
get internals, crower and je would work,
turbo cams, full port and polished head OS valves, new pt lifters and rockers, crane or crower valve springs,
u can knife edge the crank and run a lighter aluminum flywheel,
get an advanced ignition system to retard timing for major boost,
upgraded axles a LSD(limited slip differential)
get some drag radials and ud have a nice 11-12 second car if the driver is good enough and tuned properly
if thats not enouhg running 20psi on bigger injectors spray some nitrius and u should beat that vette

if your star stage 2, your turbo's fine, just get a different FMIC, Quaife LSD, CM stg 4 clutch, stage 2 axles, hahn's stage 4 fuel system(DFI, 625's, bosch 1:1, etc...), crower rods, je pistons, etc.... depends how deep your wallet goes ;-)
