I've seen the modular units a couple places for good prices. If they make a non-mod setup then obviously it will be even cheaper but I haven't seen that option. Does anyone know?

You can call them directly for more details. Apparently, the torque holding qualities are slightly different for mod vs non mod clutches, as well.

I just called horsepowerfreaks.com and they said they called SPEC to check. They said that SPEC told them they don't make a non-mod but just to not use the flywheel. That doesn't make any sense because it's rivetted together :/

Spec makes a non modular clutch, but it doesnt have the starter teeth on the flywheel. You will use the stock flexplate, and bolt the clutch to the flexplate. Matt_95tgs has this exact setup. So really its a combo of a non modular clutch with a stock flexplate meant for a stock modular setup.

Well I was planning on swapping my flexplate for a neon flywheel w/ the starter teeth on it. Do you know the price of just the disk and pressure plate? The stage 4 modular is only $430 so I'm thinking the non-mod should be significantly cheaper.

Wow. This is contrary to what I thought. Did you ask about 95 neon clutches? I remember from a number of sources that there was a non-modular clutch. I'm definitely in the same boat as your, Matt, in that I was intending to use the neon flywheel, that I've ALREADY acquired.

Yeah Jason I saw that groupbuy right before I posted that. The guy said you could get it w/ a Fidanza or steel flywheel. Well if it's modular than how can you get a Fidanza? Does anyone have SPEC's direct number? I'm thinking maybe they ONLY make a hybrid like Matt said. So if they come with a steel flywheel (w/ no starter teeth) that needs to be bolted to our flexplate I think we can eliminate our flexplate and the flywheel it comes with and bolt our neon flywheel to the block. It has starter teeth so we could just use half of their kit (clutch & pressure plate) Only thing is though I wanted to go with SPEC because of the good price. But I can almost get a non-mod CM stage 4 for the same price. So unless SPEC is better than Clutchmasters I'll probably just go with a CM 4. If someone has SPEC's number though I'll call and try to get a price minus the flywheel.

Hey Matt, it appears (from the above neons.org string) that it's been confirmed that non-modular clutches are sold minus the bolted-on flywheel. They cost apparently $20-$25 less, per group-buy prices.

Cool, I definatelty understand how those clutches work now. It's weird but I understand. I'm just wondering how their stage 4 compares to CM. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I just went down to the stage 3 from the stage 4 (Clutch Masters). I love the stage 4 for all out racing and sure fire grip. That f'n thing holds anything you can throw at it but in my opinion isn’t all too great for daily driving. It doesn’t like to be slipped and when you do you wear it out way too fast. If I ever get another car and my eclipse can become a weekend warrior I will go back to the stage 4.

I am going to try the stage 3 non-modular this go around. It came w/ a disk, pressure plate and TO bearing. I bought the clutch masters aluminum flywheel :9 instead of using my '95 neon flywheel (which is still for sale)

You can bolt those modular clutch components minuses the flywheel w/o teeth to a '95 flywheel.

I don’t know what the benefit would be though. I guess if you bought the modular w/ steel flywheel you would want to weigh it and then bolt everything up to the '95 neon flywheel and then weigh it and go w/ the lighter of the two.

I believe a modular set up is generally concidered to be lighter, but with aftermarket, all bets are off. The factory says they are better and lighter, but they also affer a simpler assembly line by both auto and manual using the flexplate.

The SPEC have been offered through Howell bolted to a Fidanza flywheel so they had to be non-modular.
