Hey guys whats up. I need a little bit of help here. My dad said they would pay for me to get my intake mani and TB ported/polished, but he said that he wanted to see what i would gain from it, and what else i would need to change if i had this done. I tried to explain it to him and he was said he wanted to see some info from people who knew what they were talking about. Rather than searching and gettin bits and pieces of info here and there i figured just makin a post would be easiest. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

well, most people go with a jeep t/b which is 60mm. it requires a fair ammount of fabrication. now back to your question, it all depends on how much you wanna do. i believe the widest opening on our stocker tb's is close to 50mm and can be bored up to 52mm. if you take off your stocker, youll notice a large hump which gradually builds just before the throttle plate. if you feel back there, youll feel that the hump slopes back down there right where the plate is. from that point on, its all the same diamater. i ported and polished mine my hand and did it with a dremel tool. i just took out that hump of metal and maded the bore the same diamater all the way through. now notice, i didnt widen the origional dimater, i just removed that hump. thats what you do when you dont want to make another throttle plate. if you bore all of it out to a larger size, you have to make a throttle plate to accomidate for the larger diamater. you MUST do this. now, if your gonna have it done at a shop, they will probably bore it out to around 52mm, they will make you a new bigger plate, and they'll reinstall it. i didnt have $200 to spend on a p&p job. just by removing that hump i gained some pretty good power. now granted i didnt hook it up to a dyno, but still, i could tell i really got alot of low end power out of it. they say that a p&p intake mani will give you pretty good gains also. again, im gonna do that myself, i just dont have time to take it off right now. id say its a good mod and yea, it will give you some pretty good power. just estimating, haveing both p&p'd....id say it may give you anywhere from 5-12 hp. im guessing, so dont quote me, but yea, it will help greatly for air flow. i dunno how much a professional p&p job it, but im sure it will run a few hundred...just guessing. it aint cheap, thats why i decided to do my own.

as ^^^ said, 2up, use a dremmel and do it by hand. make sure you buy a TB gasket, it's only like $2.xx just start out with the metal shaving bits, then grinding bits, then polish, you get the point. remember to remove both sensors attatched to the TB, i think it takes a t20? torx bit, make sure you have another the same size handy, i broke one bit tryin to get one out. that's all folks! it's not that hard, just VERY TIME CONSUMING

Actualy they bore it to 55mm and some can go upto 57mm. Porting both the TB and a p&p on the manifold should give you some nice gains top end wise and will be even better if you have more supporting mods such as intake, exhaust etc. If your going to ship it out and have it done I would recomend ARD I have been told they do great work and are very nice people click on Vendors up top for there contact info. I don't know HP gains though sorry.

To get the best gains from a p&p and bored tb, i'd recommend an aftermarket intake pipe. Anyone one that'll open up the fairflow will do.

I have to disagree with the most people getting a jeep tb statement. 60mm is kinda large, therefore it'll effect low end power. But the top end power will be great. It also requires a bit of custom work, something you might not be ready to tackle. The pre-made "bolt on" one's are also expensive.

Boring the tb yourself will bring some gains too, but not as much as getting it professionally done. The reason is because they bored it out perfectly and even replace the throttle plate to a larger one.

For the same price, you could get both your tb and manifold done at ARD. 80 for p&p of manifold, 140 for 57mm tb bore.

As for gains, in terms of quarter mile times, it's probably a .1 second gain. Not the greatest, but you have to remember that it'll have it's advantages later if you ever go turbo, etc.
