I'm thinking about getting a KN filter just because its better than the standard paper filter. I know it'll give better air flow and etc. but is it really worth paying $45 for it?
Is there any differences in the sound it makes?

BTW, I'm not really looking to increase hp ('cause we all know the KN filter doesnt help much), just interested in the sound:-)

I didnt notice any but then again i have 2.5 cat back with a 4" magnaflow...i cant hear much after that.

If you want sound get a Cold Air Intake.

They are pretty good for a begining mod if you don't have alot of cash. Not worth 45 bucks though. I have one that I had on my car for like 2 weeks if you want it. It is practically brand new and I would let ya have it for say 15-20 bucks including shipping. Hit me up if you are interested.

yea i dunno. those dont work great in all cars. my friends dodge ram suffered bad gas mileage and poor performance. for $45, you could buy a cheap ebay intake. if you want the best sound be sure and get a cone filter with an open ended filter element. i believe short rams may be a tad bit louder because the filter element is closer to the engine, but they say you get better with a CAI.

yah for about that much you can get a cold air intake on ebay. or i think for a little more you can get a universal k&n cone filter. a drop in is def. not worth that much cash though. and the drop in wont change the sound much i dont think. a universal cone should make it a little louder tho.

I paid $30 for the one I put in mine. Was my first mod with plugs and wires. It was a very slight change in sound. You had to know what it sounded like before to notice the difference. When you were on it it was slightly deeper...

Not worth $45 but you could buy the guys here for $15-20 and it be worth it. Then do the airbox mod, remove the resonator and drill some holes and you should hear a difference. Or save the movey up for a CAI and make the difference in sound and pick up some ponies

Yeah dood, like ^^^ said. I have a Magnaflow rear section out back and I'll tell you, you'll get the biggest sound change if you open up the intake with the mod or the actual CAI. I never got around to paying $45 for the KN drop in, but fortunately run4cvr gave me his once he had his turbo kit. I had the hacked air box mod with the factory paper filter in it, and I DID notice things felt a little "crisper" if you will, once I swapped in the KN. Money's tighter here than I would like with wedding and honeymoon plans and all that, but I'll be gettig the UDP before I get an actual CAI. (You won't be able to use it with the turbo kits, I bet...)

I agree with the just pickup a cheap intake off ebay. Youll get a nice growl when you rev it up not a whole lot at idle ( Itll seem really loud when you first do it but after a week you get used to it). But of course when you get to the point where you do your exhaust you cant hear shit except the exhaust .:)

they aren't that bad, but i also cut a 1.5" hole in the bottom of my resonator, and a 1.25" hole in the box with a hose running to the bottom of the car so I do notice a differance, yes it does make it louder. I've always had crappy gas mileage, but the car is old

and...remember... the oil on these filters can wreak havoc on your MAS... have to get a special electronics cleaner to remove it IIRC... (or you just have to replace it altogether..cant remember)

Well... yeah... dont REALLY have to worry until it comes time to recondition the filter... you clean it, then reapply more oil... if ya put too much on, then you'll be in trouble.. :eek:

if you ever saw the hole where the air goes into the air box... you would konw why its so inaffective... if your going to do this make sure you take off the extension from the airbox, not the one that goes from the intake mani to the box but from the box out follow that tube and it has like a 1" opening
