ok, wantin to get some power out of my car for sorta cheap. i want to know which would be the best mod for the most power. i mainly know about headers, but what about UDP's? what exactly do they slow down?? if it affects the alternator can i still run my sound system safley and not hurt it or the alternator? how hard to install, or should i just take it to a mechanic. good mfg's? anyone who can point me to a writeup and tell me what gains i can expect, thanks!

I hear udp can give you 12-15hp. I would go with that over headers anyday unless you like the headers look. Sorry I don't know how to install. It should not effect ya system or alternator at all being its belt driven but again I never installed so dont quote me on that.

The previous posts on here about headers is that they dun do much for our cars. Some people love their header but still don't say it produces much power gains.

I recommend the UDP above a header anyday. Header will only provide better flow and torque for low end, while a udp will free up power through the whole rpm range.. for all around the same price.

Concerning if you can still run your sound system with the UDP.. the answer is you most likely can. You may not want to have your sysem BLASTING when your car is idled, but when driving normally, the udp will spin the alternator enough to generate power.

UDP...although the only problem i have had is that since i have indiglows in my car and a volt gauge at idle the gauges blink cause the voltage gauge shows 9v..instead of 12v other than the usual squeeling of the belts...i would recomend the udp

AFX UDP over a header anyday.........better bang for the buck.

Header = gains on high end torque, loss of low end torque/launch.

UDP = gains on launch, low end torque, tension bearings will grind up or down though and you have to tighten your belts once in a whiles.

UDP all the way, man. I would never buy a header for our car.

I agree UDP before header, but a header is a wrthwhile mod for those going all motor or planning on spraying. The only way a header is a mod not to do is if you plan on going turbo.

udp. i got the afx one and can def. vouch for it. especially since the header is pretty much a waste of money for our cars. especially if going turbo like me }(

Ill tell you this I havent done the UDP yet but I do have a pacesetter 4-2-1 header. It gave me very noticeable gains on low end power, torque especially but NO Top end gains at all. However after I did this I changed out the stock rear exhaust for free flow rear exhaust and it cut the gains in half on the low end and gave me top end gains. If your just getting started modding Id say go with the header but if you are doing all of your exhaust later on anyways go with the UDP and youll ( from what Ive heard ) get gains across the power band.
