Is the header on the 95 model different than the 96+ model due to OBDI and OBDII. I think I read somewhere that there is something that needs to be capped off, if you are using the wrong header. Is this true??

I am trying to stay away from the cheap brand headers like Pacesetter and OBXR because of fitment and quality issues. I am looking at the HP Racing header, and maybe HotShot and AirMass if I can find a site that sells them. For that little performance the 2gnts get off a header, the price of the Greddy header is out of line.

well my bosal header has the inlet for the secondary air injection dohickey that was recalled, all I did was get a cap from the hardware store and screw it on

IMO a header is not worth the money so if you really want one get the cheapest , the power gains were minimal at best.
Money is better spent somewhere else.

I understand what you are saying, but I dont want to get down there and have some fitment issues with the bolts and flanges not being perfect. HP racing isn't the most expesive and it isnt the cheapest either, but they do seem to make quality stuff. I also dont own a dremel so matching ports on a header (pacesetter) that should have already been matched from the get go is out of the question.

I know the '95 hotshots have an opening that I capped on my friends car I used a 3/4" brass fitting from a plumbing shop. The opengine resided on the collector

even with my greddy header the runners don't perfectly line up with the exhaust ports. but from what i have heard the cheaper ones have problems with the welds breaking.

if your looking for the Airmass header, they are sold at pepboys. i think they are going for around $350

On the topics of headers has anyone followed up on just porting out the stock header? I remember a few months back someone claimed good gains from just porting the stocker out, but I cant see how that is. Seems a purpose built racing header would be better IMO.

the stock exhaust manifold is also alot harder. it makes the aluminum intake seem soft. for what you would spend on bits to port it you could probably buy a header.
