Anyone ever figure out why some os us are having problems with weird sounds coming from the tranny after installing a clutch masters stage 4 clutch? My tranny has been shifting perfectly but at idle I am still getting a very loud sound coming from the tranny area.

Is it that scratchy light grinding noise that dissapears when you have the clutch pushed in 3/4 of the way? Give me some of the symptoms and i'll see what I can come up with.

Hey dave, if it goes away when you push in the clutch(like mide does) its the throw out bearing...its normal.

I've had the same problem ever since I pulled the tranny and installed my SPEC clutch as well. I used an automotive stethescope and the noise is definately coming from inside the tranny and not the bellhousing which rules out the throwout bearing. Also, the throwout bearing usually makes noise when you have the clutch pushed in since thats when it is in contact with the pressure plate and spinning. I have no clue what did this, but other than the slight chatter, there is nothing wrong with the tranny. It shifts very easy and I never miss a shift. I don't get it either.

A bad throw out beraing will make noise when you push the clutch pedal in. usually they chirp or squeel. If your getting the noise when your at an idle with the pedal out then you most likely have a bad mainshaft bearing. The mainshaft is allowed to freespin and there is no load on the bearings allowing them to rattle around and make the noise i've come to live with for the last 2 yrs. When the clutch is pushed in, the motor is no longer spinning the imput shaft of the tranny, therefore it will not make the noise anymore. Sux, i know but it's a plague with the 2gnt.

ahah!! the mainshaft bearings...i had a feeling...i'm recently having the same problems with mine...but did any of you (while highway cruising on 5th) have the stick pop out of gear?

So is this main shaft bearing expensive to replace?

Well, if its the mainshaft bearing, knowing dealer pricing, you'd probably be better off buying a junkyard tranny in good condition... :-(

Mine makes a "rattling" sound when cold, push the clutch in or let it warm up and it goes away. i just put in a BRAND new tranny, the only things still in it are the TO bearing and CM Stage4 from the last tranny...and it also makes this sound when cold. its either the TO bearing breaking in, or just that the stage 4 is so stiff it rattles when cold.
