41666, Do I need to bore?
Posted by extreme97nt, Jan-14-03 03:04 AM
I have another engine I am building for my car and would like to know if it is necesssary to bore it out and go with oversize pistons. It's bore is not damaged in any way and the crossthatch is still very visible. Does anyone know what the size should be? Could I just run a hone through it? I think the engine only had about 40,000 miles on it until rod bearing went.TIA

well ill give u the scoop,

u *can* hone it if the bore is perfect which it is 99% chance its not,
do u want to build a 2,000.00 motor and have a piston deicde to turn it self sideways or melt it self inside the bore and e rebuilding i sure as hell dont,

bore the motor and get os pistons it insures that u have a perfect surface and not a hacked up job froma old working motor,

if u dont' bleive me call and talk to ard, howell, blackdogmotorsports, phat ridz and forward motion ask them if they build a motor for somone and do not bore it if they do id NEVER buy somthing from their shop again =P

spend the 48$ to bore the pistons are the same price...

Ditto ^

Even looking good the cylinder is probably out of round. Your best bet is to bore it out. It's the only way to ensure the rings seal well.
