41573, Time for headgasket, aquiring parts! Posted by Michael_97RS, Jan-13-03 05:59 AM
Ordered my cam gears, head bolts and coil pack today for the headgasket repair/upgrade. Ordered Lifters last week. Rockers will be ordered soon. Woohoo.
Installing this with a thin .027" copper headgasket for a little bump in compression. Once warmer weather is here I should be a happier person.

I'm in the process now of ordering my headgasket repair parts. Did you go with the ARP bolts or what? I run my car hard often and shoot nitrous, would this be a good upgrade for me also.

Hey Mike, I heard having your bores O-ringed are key for a good seal using a Copper HG.
Check it out.

This is actually a temporary head gasket fix. I am using the Mopar head bolt and will be getting some ARP washers to ensure it seals with the thinner HG, and the bolts don't bottom out.
The spare head I have that is ported/polished and milled is o-ringed. I'm saving up for valve springs and undercut valves, to build and install that. Then I will be going with the ARP studs.

...so I would highly recommend that with a thin copper gasket that you make sure the deck and head are true as can be. Coat the Deck and Mill with some gasket spray and cut down your stock head bolt (ya know the side that leaks) to ensure the good seal...
...and make sure you let the spray coating cure (sit for a day) because the copper gasket will surely protect against any leaks but you need to take on the correct preparations otherwise a thin copper gasket could eventually leak. If you want a compression bump then I'd suggest a mill of anywhere between .025-.028 (anywhere between these numbers will yield a 10.6:1 compression bump total with your thin HG).

damn its a regular reunion in here :D
mike, just got my car back...the head was all f'ed up...thanks for your help tho...one thing to note...the guy that did the work said he replace the mls(mitsu gasket that we put in with a better one...) i asked him about that and apparently there is a mls headgasket with rubber o rings and what not that seals much better...
hey see you all later!

I was planning oon spraying the gasket, any thoughts on using a very minimal amount around the oil and coolant passages?
Brian, I'll let you know, I still need to order rockers and get all the parts here.
Greg, glad to hear it, I was afraid the head had warped from the previous gasket being blown. I need to find a good machine shop in the area to get mine checked and decked. Any suggestions guys?
