41255, Smoke during warmup? (kinda long) Posted by Collente, Jan-09-03 03:01 AM
Hey guys, Im getting white exhaust smoke durring warmup then as soon as I am a little warm it will go away, I have it at no other time than this. I did have an incident with my turbo, the seals were blown and it was dumping oil in the dp. That was a few weeks ago since it has been fixed. Could this be my cat? Any suggestions? TIA

Well, it is winter, so it is possible this is condinsation build up, and once your car warms up it doesn't have any more water to blow out the back.. I wouldn't be worried at all about this.

Either you still have oil leaking on the DP, or you still have remnants of oil somewhere on your exhaust system.
That's me bet. I had the same deal with my subaru that had leaking oil seals (which leaked on the exhaust). It still smoked for a week or so after gettiing it fixed.

Yeah if you have some cold temps you will get the condensation burning off. If it does it durning warm weather I would start looking for a bad oil seal somewhere.

I dont think that it is the seals becuase the turbo was just rebuilt. By a very reputable person, I even got a warentee on the rebuild. Would it smoke like this? Untill it was a little warm. I dont think its condensation the more I think about it, unless its a lot of damn condensation :) Thanks Guys!

Just take a look at your DP, or have a look at your oil drain tube on your turbo. It may reveal some things.
We can all just sit here an speculate. Only you can look. :-)

Kind of along the same lines...
I noticed today as I backed into my garage that my car was putting out some smoke. It appeared to be grey or white, and it was no nasty that it burned my eyes and throat. The car was started cold, its in the 40s here and I hadn't driven it today. Ive never really noticed it before, but then again I never back into the garage like that. I have noticed a "smell" of sorts coming from the exhaust right after I start it. Any ideas for me?

One thing to consider is when things get cold they contract, so it could indeed be a seal when it is cold, but when it warms up it expands to normal size and seals correctly. Things like that just scare me, I start thinking HG when shit like that happens.

^^^my thoughts exactly. When I start my car, im overwhelmed with the smell of gas, but mine smokes as well, and like yours goes away once warm
