4113, someone please help if you can Posted by 97eclipseRS, Jun-26-01 07:40 AM
i'm going crazy trying to find out if one of the aem bypass valves will fit on a injen intake w/ cold air extension, because i want to get the extension, but only if there is a bypass valve or something similar that will eliminate the chance of sucking in water(don't wanna take any chances). please let me know if you can give me any advice on this or if anyone has this setup or has heard of it. thankyou.

dude why dont you just call aem and ask them the diameter of the bypass valve and you should already know the diameter of your injen intake. if they are the same it'll work. they should be WIDE AWAKE http://www.geocities.com/blue2gnt

i think aem make 3 diff diameters and one will match your intake. i would cut your intake as close to the mounting bracket as you cant...you need just enough space after the mounting bracket to allow for the bypass and clamps and stuff. i am getting ready to do teh same thing. let me know where you are ordering the extension from. mike at rre said he may order it for me but the last time he did that for someone...here on 2gnt it was a hassle. i think it was 65 from rre. let me know how it turns out. also i may just go get the whole aem CAI with bypass so dont know. i already have red aem cam gears so it would look nice to have red aem cai too!!!

only 59.95 at ptuning.com and 5% discount for 2gnt members. what did you mean when you said i should cut it as close to the mounting bracket as possible? do you mean the support bracket?

i think where it gets cut it is a 3in diameter...i will check tonight. you have to cut the intake to install the bypass. like i said i will check tonight the diameter of where it gets cut and post then. i am at work right now.

the problem is that the valve must be installed between the throttle body and the support bracket becuase if it installed after the bracket there will be all that weight and leverage hanging on the valve unless the extension has another support bracket for itself. another thing, i looked at it real quick after work(didn't have time to check thoroughly) and i think it's 3inch, but i measured it kind of quickly. the problem is there is smaller section after the throttle body, then it gets larger(to 3 in.) right before the support bracket. i don't know if there is enough room in the space where it's 3 inch, to fit the valve. do you know how much space the valve needs, or how big it is? even after the bracket, there isn't much space before the bend, and you can't mount it on a bend.

it should not matter, but AEM will not warranty it's bypass valve, when used in conjunction with another intake...Just keep it in mind..

yeah if i get the cold air extension i would also get the bypass...install it a little after teh bracket and make a custom bracket to mount the rest for stability. maybe i am smokin some real crack here. guess i need to actually pop the hood and check. didnt get a chance last night cause i was too busy ... uhh nm can you say AUTO's are nice for one thing!!!!
