Okay I sent the people that sell the DSMLink for 2G Turbo cars an email today asking them if they could reprogram our ECUs for better perfance like AFX does. I like the AFX ECU but I dont think they are making them for 96' MT talons due to "internal differences" between them and the 97+ ECUs. I offered to send him my spare 96 MT ECU.
Here is what the guy said: "Funny you should mention this idea. Another fellow 2GNT'er is offering the same thing. To be honest, I didn't get it much thought at first. But after thinking a little more, the 2GNT might actually be a relatively easy market to get into. It's closer to our 2G Turbo model than is a 1G DSM, at least electrically (adapter and cabling), so it might actually be easier to support. It all depends on just how radically different the ECU really is. Regardless, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a 2GNT ECU. Are you sure these have EPROMs in them?"

Humh. Sweet!
How exactly do they change the ECU? I already have an HKS AFR so would I actually see any improvement? Or am I not understanding exactly what the ecu or AFR does?
(No, I don't buy stuff I don't understand; pardon my cluelessness I bought the car with the AFR already in it... hehehe)

We DO NOT have EEPROMS in our ECUs! Do we?! wtf?
Plus they'd need to make um at least 4? different ECUs for us to cover all the years. 95, 96, 97-98, and 99.
I suspect what AFX does is change some of the capacitance/resistance values for various operations. Like, if rev limit kicks in at 4.83 volts, they put a resistor inline to make it 4.92v or something. I had a *VCR* repair shop engineer modify my 1984 Camry ECU for a higher revlimit and timing advance. :)
Also, there's like 3 other threads running around about this: http://forums.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID16/5705.html http://forums.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID16/5696.html http://forums.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID30/3992.html
