What intake would u recommend i get for my 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. I found a good deal on an injen intake and i am thinking seriously about buying it. Think this is a good deal on a good intake or is there a cheaper alternative???

when u say a cheaper alternative, i'm thinking of a ghetto rigged pvc cai from home depot. have u heard of the new AEM cai version 2? its supposed to be on the market in spring. take a look at some online aftermarket shops.

I'd go with just a plain old aem, but i'm biased.

I love my Injen CAI and i liked it as short ram too. Get the injen.

love my Iceman, you can also get a nice CAI from dreamspeed2.com for around 100 bucks

procarparts.com has a CAI for like $40....i have it....works just fine

yeah i'd say any 2.5" alumminum poilshed piping going underneath the engine by the bumper, and a K&N filter will probably be the same results as anem, injen, or other products. the main purpose is having air drawn straight to the fliter, and that's the cold air effect. you could check ebay and there's always a cold air intake setup for real cheap.

The major difference i have found is in the fitment. With the AEm its just slap it on and its ready. With some of the ebay ones you have to remove the battery tie down and slide the battery over as far as it will go. As far as performace goes I agree that they are probably about the same.

i would recommend and AEM cai, i guess like the guy above im biased becuase i have one on my car. but they sound great, and the extra pull you feel around 4000rpm is more than any other intake i've tried. i tried a 40 ebay intake, it was no good. i have an aem full cold air system now, and i love it.

If you can sacrifice the windshield washer fluid resevior then I'd say just stick a K&N cone filter directly onto your throttle body. That's what I've got, and I love it. Throttle response is amazing, it makes more power than my short ram did (probably because the filter isn't next to my exhaust manifold anymore) and it sounds WONDERFUL. It is SO loud at WOT. Anyway, just thought I'd give you another option.

P.S. Couple this mod with a ported/polished throttle body, and it wails even louder.

Yeah I had the cheap ass ebay one and let me tell you, it sucked. After like two months the metal flange that held it in place completely tore off and I had to ghetto rig the pipe to my fan assembly to keep it from falling off. (Not to mention i had to take off my battery tie down like fastergs was talking about.)
I just bought the AEM and it kicks ass, I have heard good things about injen too.

Cool, i am thinking i will just go with the Injen Intake. However, does anyone have anything bad to say about it?

PS. I must admit however, that $30 one from procarparts is very tempting to try........

a K&N at the end of the stock intake pipe is good enough. is what i had for a very long time. you might get 1 to 2 whp out of a costly mainstream MH$ or AEM intake pipe. or, you could get the intake that Star or HRC makes...

i loved my akimoto before, my eclipse sounded like a beast hehe.. then it went bad so i got a aem. just get a short ram aem and you should be cool. if you get alot of water were you live dont get a cold air at all not worth the worry. just wrap your short ram with some termo wrap crap and it will be almost as good.. hehe

I got an ebay CAI and it fit perfect and ive had no problems. And if it rains alot i dont need to worry i can just slip the filter on the the first half of the pipe, since its 2 pieces. The intake doesn't move or shake at all. For the difference in prices i'm happy with my descision.

Ebay baby :thumbsup Actual decent quality and the filter it came with is still in good shape. $60 shipped ot my door.

oh yah, i forgot to add to my post before. if eo #s matter to you get the aem! if not make your own for dirt cheap...

that is a good intake but you need to go with the full cold air intake to actually benifit from it. I carry full polished cold air intakes from Tenzo for around 130 to 150 complete with everything. to see a picture of it go to the link below.
