40847, Installed SAFC and got CEL help!!!
Posted by neovb, Jan-04-03 11:15 AM
Okay I put in hooked up the SAFC today, set it up correctly (pressure sensor, 4cyl, throttle up) and set everything to 0%. Turned on the car and got a CEL, pocketlogger reports it as:

PO106: Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/ Per Range

Doublechecked the wiring and everything seems to be in its place. Car runs perfect, no idling problems, starts up perfect, nothing wrong at all, actually feels like its running slightly better. Both the SAFC and the Pocketlogger report a pressure reading.

What can be causing this and what can I do to fix it (granted I can just clear the CEL but I wanna know whats behind it). Thanks.

if you map sensor is good then you probably wired it wrong or programed it wrong. did you check you the link that shuwa29 posted for ya on the in/ex section ?http://www.turbogs.com/vfaqs/afc_install_for_420a.htm
to check the map
measure voltage between 2 and ground with igniton:on
it should be 4.7-5.2v

Some cars pop a CEL, others don't. Mine does. Welcome to the club. Just check the spark plugs in a couple of hundred miles or so, and if they are crusty or soot covered, then the MAP being reported to the ECU isn't right.

I followed those directions to the tee. What do you mean by measure voltage between 2 and ground?

If there was something wrong the MAP, and the ECU was not getting a correct signal then wouldnt the idle be messed up or wouldnt some other problems be occuring? What should the SAFC read in terms of MAP? Because the pocketlogger and the SAFC are getting two different readings.

They should read the same number if the sAFC is Zero'd. The number that the sAFC shows is the input voltage, and the logger will report the output voltage. If you are zero'd, then the 2 numbers should be the same.

Where is the MAP sensor located? What would you use to measure the voltage?

i got a CEL with my SAFC. rumor (and fact) has it that about 50% get CEL and the others dont. Not sure why, but car runs fine with it.

NEO!!! Its about time you came aboard. Nycdsm is nice but 2gnt is wayyyyy better. Even though i have a 4g63 I dont like it that much because they rag on 420a all the time.

Check the wiring connections. Make sure they are good, solid connection. The map sensor connections (because you have to cut the wire and not just splice into it like the other connections) can go bad if you use the clips supplied with the SAFC instead of soldering them. It is possible one of these two connections are bad connections and is causing the check engine light.

You should double check the wiring and if they are loose, solder them to make sure you have good continuity.

Hey Remy, yeah, I used to post on here a LONG time ago, but then went local on NYCCDSM because not too many people on here are from NYC (as far as I could tell).

I guess Ill doublecheck the wiring again, but I didnt use the clips provided by the SAFC. I used ones from RadioShack and pretty much got them in there nice and strong, but I didnt solder them. I will have to do that I guess.

BTW, I cleared the CEL and I never came back. I have had CEL before dealing with EGR, as well as no catalytic converter and possibly a bad rear o2 sensor, could those be behind the problem?
