40729, My P&P TB results. Posted by fasterGS, Jan-02-03 04:55 PM
Well as you can see in the pics it came out ok. I did notice a bit more power in the higher RPMS. The biggest change I noticed was the car will now accelerate all the way to 7k. Before it seemed to hit a brick wall at 6k, and the extra 1k rpms were just about useless.

How did you do that Jason? I want to do that to mine too! I'd like to do the intake mani too, but I don't think I have the skills for that.

A dremel, grinding and cutting bits, sandpaper, and polishing bits :) Oh and about 4-5 hours of your time, and I sorta hurried too ;)

I did mine on a vertical mill, took me like 30 minutes and came out EXACTLY like that, Im auto and was really impressed with the difference, but be careful if you have a safc, I forgot to "0" mine out before turning the car on and immediately got a CEL for running too lean, just from more air getting in, so it really does make a difference, and yes car pulls HARD to rev limit

yeah, i just did mine and broke the dremmel so i couldn't really finish. but i did notice a small gain. but it probably would have been better if that piece of crap didn't sieze up. oh well, i'll probably end up buying a new TB in the future so it doesn't matter.

40735, RE: My P&P TB results. Posted by berzerkled, Jan-04-03 05:56 AM
woh so all you did was just sort of 'sand' down the inside of the stock tb??
|
40736, RE: My P&P TB results. Posted by fasterGS, Jan-04-03 06:11 AM
Yeah, if you have ever looked on the inside of a stock throttle body there is a nasty little "hump" in there. I guess the theory is when you squeeze the air together it moves faster. Well I just removed the hump, it allows MORE air into your motor. I am very pleased with the results... I could really feel a difference.
If anybody wants this done but does not have the means themselves I would be happy to do it. I'd have to charge a little bit for my time and to cover the dremel bits I use, but it wouldn't be much. jason2gnt@aol.com

so you took away the bump thing and did you make the diameter any bigger?
|
40738, RE: My P&P TB results. Posted by fasterGS, Jan-04-03 06:47 AM
I took material out all the way up to the throttle plate, but did not touch where the plate closes. I didn't do anything to the outlet either, didn't see the point in it. As far as actually numbers go I can't give any. But it was quite a bit of metal.

i never got to finish mine because the piece of crap sears brand dremmel thing broke (hehe, i siezed it up, dunno how though). but from what i got out it could have filled a standard shot glass. if i could actually finish what i started maybe half a shot more?. it was a lot of metal.
do you think that putting the dremmel bits in a drill would do the same thing? sure it would be noiser and really uncomfortable but it would in theory do the same thing right? I'd really like to finish it, mine isn't really shiny.

hey anyone wanna post pics of the bits u guys use the onees i was usging on my intake manifold just gummed up in like two seconds, im not sure what bits i need to do some porting and polishing thanks guys,
pics or online store that has pics would be mucho helpful,

40741, RE: My P&P TB results. Posted by fasterGS, Jan-04-03 09:48 AM
I don't have pics, but if you go to the store and look at the bits oyu will know which ones I am talking about. The first I used were grinding stones. Then I also used cutting bits. They look like drill bits but are made for cutting. Sandpaper, you know what that is. And I bought the whole Dremel polishing kit. If you really need pics I can get some, but you should be able to figure it out.
I found some... Grinding...
Cutting...
Polishing...

If you liberally use WD-40, you can get away with using regular wheels. I used a chainsaw sharpening grinding bit, and it works well. The WD-40 gets the aluminum shavings to clump together rather then clump to the grinding bit. I started with a coarse bit (the chainsaw sharpener) and finished with a snooth grinding bit, using WD-40 all the way! -=B-=

Hmmm... that is helpful because I still want to take some material out. I was having that problem of the metal collecting on the grinding stones and then it just wasn't taking off material. Thanks Bill!!!

Gah.. I got my first up-close look at my TB the other day... FUCK it looks small!! I could like... barely fit a few fingers in there!! wtf!!
I definitely want to do ^^ that
stupid dremel died though...
What did you do in terms of protecting the inner workings? Did you just leave the plate closed, and grind away for like an hour, then dust it all out?

>What did you do in terms of protecting the inner workings? >Did you just leave the plate closed, and grind away for like >an hour, then dust it all out?
Exactly... I would blow the dust out every 5 or 10 minutes actually. it build up quick and then you can't see what you are doin.

yea my bits just gummed up with the aluminum so i jsut need wd40 eh alrighty that sounds easier to do them, i know mya tv porter uses a high speed electric die grinder and a sharp cutting bit to get his stuff ported...
i dunno ill give it another shot what kind of stones are u usging mine are all really fine that came witht eh die grinder

i only got to use the metal cutting bits before the dremmel seized up. but yeah, the bits got clogged with aluminum, so i took a normal push pin and picked the aluminum out of the cutting bits, i started using the grinding stone (only once around so it's not that smooth) before the piece of crap seized up on me so i'm gonna see if the metals shop at my school will let me use a mill on it.
for cleaning it out. i did what i could and then took it to a compressor at 100 psi and blew the hell out of it. (compressor was off so i went from 100 psi to 40. (it's my dad's compressor and i'm not supposed to use it hehehe).

so are you guys making the diameter bigger or just remvoing little metal junk that you don't need?

Write up? Is there an existing one? If not it would be chill if you could do one.

I posted that about halfway up on this thread ;) So in answer to your question, no I didn't because I didn't take any material out where the plate closes. I am thinking about trying to make a new throttle plate though. I need another TB before I try that though.

i was able to do a lot of porting and polising w/ my handy dremel too...you really need the flex attachement for absolute control which brings me to the point of this post...i got a second dremel for christmas, its the newest version, variable speed to 32,000 rpms and it comes w/ the flex attachement...i would be willing to part w/ it for 40 bucks, this kit is well over 75-85 retail...i'm going to keep the bits but the tool and attachement are for sale...w/ the keyless chuck bit holder you'd have what i spent 85 for three months ago..if anyones interested you just pay the shipping and its yours..i have paypal too...sorry for thread jacking, it kind of pertains to what you guys are doing...lol
