Hey just wondering if anyone could help me out. Since Ive had my exhaust it has had a distinct rattle noise that sounds as if its coming directly from the muffler. Ive ignored it for six months but now Im very sick of it. It only happens at certain RPM's when accelerating and deccelerating (sp?) while still in gear. I guess you could describe it as a tinny sounding buzz from the muffler itself. Has anyone had the problem and corrected it somehow? If so PLEASE let me know, I dont want to sound like a D series honda engine with a fart can nemore...

Is your muffler stock or aftermarket? Stainless steel? Do you live in a state with a cold climate?
I had the same thing happen to my exhaust, and here's why..... I had a stainless steel muffler by Naxos. It's called a double chamber muffler or something like that, which means there is a resonating chamber inside. The problem is, when the inside chamber gets cold, it becomes brittle and can easily be cracked. Once this happens it can make buzzing noises at certain rpms. A muffler shop told me all this when I took it in to ask what the noise was. It's not repairable because it's INSIDE the muffler.
I ended up just ditching mine and getting a 3" Thermal cat-back.

could be the heat shields are coming lose on the pipe and vibrating, could be like he ^ said, start the car and look down there and see if you can pinpoint it and fix the problem

Could be heat shield... Check the muffler hangers if it's loose it can rattle too. Otherwise if it's internal parts of themuffler you pretty don't have a fix for it ecept to replace it.

i had the same noise when i put my N1 catback on. there are only 2-3 shields that may rattle after you put a catback on. right below the exhaust manifold, after the flex pipe, and around the cat. mine was after the flex-pipe, i just put 2 stainless hoseclamps on it, torqued it down, and im fine. good luck chris

Thanks for the help guys. Its an OBX (which i realize prolly isnt the highest of quality) and I live in FL which is not cold by any stretch of the imagination. I took off the rear heat shield and I guess Ill go ahead and try the rest but it sounds as if it is coming from the muffler itself so I may be SOL.
