The UDP should give you more power than any TB upgrade. I suggest getting the UDP first.

ok guys, i know this is an old post and all, but please forgive me. i know i know, ok shoot me for it. but anyways. why are all these guys saying UDP. i've read other posts and those same guys said that the MD throttle body is so much better if i haven't mistaken. can you guys clear that up for me? im in the process of getting the md 60mm tb. thanks

The UDP isn't as noticeable as the 60mm TB. The UDP will free up lost power from the engine, mainly torque and a smoother rev climb. The 60mm Tb during WOT accleration will speed up the rev climb. Personally I would go get the 60mm TB first then proceed with the UDP. I have the 60mm tb combined with an CAI + Apexi Dunk cat-back and it seems to work pretty well.

OR if you want to try them both, just borrow a dremel and port and polish your existing TB some afternoon. The hardest part is removing the sensors. Get the UDP, do some porting and you will notice gains above what you would from either by itself. Just my .o2. ;)

i would definitly suggest the UDP over the TB...assuming your mostly stock otherwise with regards to breathing... I think the biggest reason why people feel a gain with the TB isnt because they are gaining a significant power increase, its just because for any give throttle plate angle, it allows more air to pass through, so just barely stepping on the gas with the bigger TB is like really stepping on the gas with the smaller TB..... not sure if that made sense but im sure u know what i mean.

I get ya. You are saying it is more throttle responce that people feel, not horsepower. I think you will get a larger overall hp increase with the UDP, especially if you have a stock intake. Maybe not as noticable as a touchy TB, but still there. The TB is really only going to give you horsepower at high RPMs, while the UDP gives hp across the RPM band.

my car sorta just sits there when i go past 5200 rpm or so, is it true when ppl say that i still pulls past that mark? i knwo lots of other guys have this problem w/ the stock car.

uhm, with an exhaust and CAI it shouldnt be doing that. Normally these cause you to loose a bit of torque and open up the top end pretty good all. Especially near the red line, but yeah the stockers loose some of their breath near red line.

I think the TB will yeild a more responsive accleration, where as a UDP will give you a smoother/quicker acceleration. If that makes any sense.

Otherwise I recommend the UDP. Unorthodox makes an awsome UDP for us. Jamesman pointed it out to me. Billet aluminum on an aluminum or was it steel hub that is a 2 piece to install. worth 180 or so that I spent. My turbo respinse is some much greater now. I just need to free up the DP next.

the more mods you have = more gases leaving the motor (hypothetically). if you have alot of exhaust work such as header, dp, high flow cat, or catback then i can see you benefitting from the MP 60mm tb more so than the UDP. i'm not saying don't get the UDP as it is my next mod. you'll be much happier with the better throttle response. my car felt completely different after i installed it. if you want to talk anytime, just IM > acid23rain on AIM. good luck!

the UDP is the crank pulley so yes, u can run a UDP on a turboed 420a. :thumbsup

what about a 4g63?

I simply won't believe that a 60MM TB benefits anybody who is under 90% VE or so. The stock TB flows more air then the engine can take in at 95% VE, so all that a larger TB would gain would be throttle response. Someone with crazy cams or a turbo and a sheetmetal intake manifold might see a benefit from a larger throttle body, but I would disagree that bigger is better. Some of the faster 4G63 powered DSMs are still on their stock TB, which is 60MM (with a 1G). I think that any airflow piece that supports 11s is too much flow for a 15 (or even 14) second all motor 420a. You wouldn't want to run a 3" catback with a 3" test pipe, now, would you?
