40197, Muffler on the pacesetter exhaust Posted by DeanoD, Dec-23-02 12:54 PM
Is the muffler on the pacesetter exhaust a straight flow through?
Has anyone cut one open to see how the flow is routed. I have read high flow muffler and free flowing muffler.....not sure what that means exactly.
thanks!

It is not a straight through muffler. It has close to a 2 1/4 outlet with approx a 3.5 inch tip. It's fairly restrictive and replacing it is a good idea imo.

I have had a canister muffler before and it was fine. I could really care less how it looks as long as it functions great. Sound is important because I do not like a raspy sound......deep tone is good.
I am considering a magnaflow muffler from jegs.com because it has a 2.5 side inlet and a 2.5 side outlet. The current pacesetter uses this style muffler and it would mount a lot easier if I keep the same offset style. The magnaflow is also a high flow(straight pipe at 45 degree angle between in/out) muffler.....with good tone.
I currently have my wastegate dumped to atomsphere and not routed back into the downpipe. This does help relieve the exhaust from getting backed up under boost. I am thinking I will get a quicker spoolup and better high rpm power with a flow through muffler. I almost considered keeping the pacesetter muffler(sounds great on a boosted car and vacuum driving is great)and put an electrical exhaust cutout before or after my testpipe. It has a switch that I just hit to open the cutout and dump to atomsphere. The would be great for racing. No restriction when needed and normal driving is not affected.
watcha think about an electrical exhaust cutout?
