40160, tick tick tick....... Posted by Doug96GS, Dec-22-02 05:02 PM
After getting off the highway tonight I was at a light and I noticed that my car was making a ticking noise that went up with rpms. I got out of the car, popped the hood, and it sounded like the ticking was coming from underneath the valve cover. My motor has almost 156K so I'm assuming that this is lifter tick. First of all, is there any way that I can get rid of it? Secondly, is it imperative that I get it fixed? If it helps, I noticed the ticking after a 120mph highway race w/ a new generation prelude and no, I did not win :-)

yeah sound like you need to replace your lash-adjusters. they wear out just like most parts, replace them with the PT Cruiser ones.

i had the same thing happen when i first bought my car. I had no idea it burned oil so bad and i ran it 2.5 qts low on oil and fried 2 rod bearings. They ticked when i got up to about 3 or 4k rpms. Real annoying but it only cost about 200 to fix.
