40126, umm is this normal???

ok, so i pull off my tb today to do a lil p&p and i look at the back of the throttle plate and it has oil caked on the back of it. then i look into the intake mani and everythings coated with a thin layer of oil. i look in my intake pipe and there is no oil, and none on the very front of the tb. could this be from that hose that runs from the head to the intake manifold?? if it is, does that hose have to be connnected to the manifold?? or can i just run it to a catch can or something? any info would be good. oh, and one more thing, whats the other sensor besides the TPS, and what is it for?? will water or degreaser hurt it or anything??

That is your your wonderful EGR. The exhaust gas is being dumper back into teh intake manifold and it gunks up the manifold with carbon and other junk.

it's from the EGR huh? I'll pull of my TB and check that theroy someday (because my car doesn't have an EGR system, atleast not a standard style one) but I"m pretty sure my vehicle still has the build up beneath the throttle plate, but I'll check to be sure.. if it does, then that means it's not all caused by the EGR system, and perhaps from some blow back or backfires past the intake valves and back into the intake manifold when the throttle plate is closed.. cause that would explain why it's ONLY on one side of the throttle plate.

You may get a bit of oil in the manifold past the PCV, but the gunk and large amounts of crap is from the EGR. The oil really shouldn't build up too much.

i thought the egr was located on the side of the block, and had a hard pipe running to the back side of the intake manifold?? the hose im talking about is the one that is the only hose that fits on the front of the intake manifold. if i had a pic id show you. its not the one that runs back into the intake pipe. and any info on that other mystery sensor i asked about?

What about blow-bye from bad or broken piston rings? That could cause oil in the intake/TB.
EDIT: Have you done a compression test?

The hose in front is for your PCV valve. That makes your shit dirty too. Not as bad as the EGR system though. I would leave your PCV valve alone though.

The EGR is the metal pipe that runs in the back of you intake. It blows hot, filthy, gasses and shit back in to your engine through your intake. Check the "Things we've seen before" thread at the top of the main page for more info.

the PCV (or crankcase breather system) goes into the intake on my zx2 just in front of the air filter so I can see the amount of deposits that come through, and it barely makes a wet spot about 1/2" wide by 1.5" long.. now.. this is a zx2.. but I wouldn't think you guys would get that much more goo through the PCV system. so I doubt there is any worry about that gumming up your intake..

yea, i have done a comp test and got 175-180. i looked when i was reinstalling it and it seems to be there where the egr comes in, so i may do the blockoff mod sometime.

that sensor on your tb is you iac it controles you idle air mixture. has a plunger on it? that one. you need it.
