from idle to about 3500 rpm it sounds like a loud rattle....
could this be my timing belt is loose?
you cant here it after a certian rev and it smells like rubber burning a little

Open the little window that goes to the timing belt and look at it. I never heard any rattles from mine, but I did notice that there are wear marks on one half of the belt - the side closest to the motor. It turned out that one of the bolts holding the rear timing belt cover to the block was missing, so the belt would rub on the cover.
