I think i want to go all motor, just get the stroker block from howell with 12.5 compression, or see how the 2.4 swap turns out...But what i'm wondering is about smog..

Now i know you can't pass with turbo but if you make it a transformer for smog then you can pass by putting everything to stock..

But if you rebuild the engine with a higher compression ratio can you pass smog? I mean it would pass visual but what about emissions and other such things? I plan to have enough money for either this summer, so i have to decide which i'd rather do.

I'd rather not deal with making my car a transformer like that, and all motor sounds fun, but if you can't pass smog with higher compression theres no way of making a 'transformer' out of it unless you change the block in and out :wary

So if anyone has ideas

i dont see why you couldnt pass with all motor, you might have to lean it out when they test it, but it mostly depends on how muuch leway they give you.. which is hard to tell.

it would be my guess that you will fail smog with a build motor...If you stick with only upgrading displacement then you should be fine. Well, come to think of it, i dont see why a point or two higher compression would alter the emissions as long as you keep an eye on having the engine run at stoichometry. Dont change cams tho cuz otherwise you wont pass.

I don't see why you think he wouldn't pass. What about people in the area with PT Cruisers with cams?

You should pass fine especially with higher comp. ratio because you will be burning the fuel more efficiently.

Good cams with lots of overlap will pull unburned fuel through and CA has stricker emmissions than us in IL. So go all motor, but keep stock cams to switch back to for emissions.

hey, if you really want all motor then email Gary at Howell and tell him you'd be interested in the 3.0 block also. i still can't find out if he's going to make it or not, but maybe if more people email him then he'll decide to.
