39772, Fuuuudge - inspection time in Delaware

So delaware does OBD2 scanning for 1996 and newer cars. That means i'm automatically out of the inspection loop because my egr code 32 is on constantly (i removed my egr system).

Anyone in delaware have experiences or tips on getting a turbo/rebuilt/fuel-sucking 420a inspected for emissions in delaware?

Its transformer time! fuuuuuuuuuuk

I don’t live in Delaware but we have inspections like your from what it sounds like. OBD2 scan, exhaust testing, gas tank testing, dyno testing, etc, etc, etc...

I have the DFI hooked up so it throws injector 1-4 not hooked up codes, no EGR hooked up so it throws that code, Because of the DFI it sometimes throws a system too rich code.

I think the only way to get my car to pass is put everything back on that is stock and pull or unplug all the stuff that will make me fail. Sucks but I knew I would have to do it.

if your around newark you can stop by here, borrow my EGR stuff, go pass inspection and bring it back to me. I wont be here in 4 years when you gotta go it again though :p

OMG they actually scan your ecu for ODB2 error codes? Here in CA they just look visually for a check engine light. And I thought cali was the worst for emissions tests...

It is and it isn't, from what I understand here in Colorado you can do any modification to your engine as long as your original emission systems are in place and working. So that means my turbo should be ok as long as I don’t put out too much bad exhaust. From what I have read you guys in Cali can't do that.

Ok so i went to get inspected and get a temp tag so i can at least drive and get the egr in place.

The only thing they complained about were non-related to my turbo (they didnt even open the hood). I have a cracked windshield (which i knew would need to get replaced) and i got the egr code.

They also got rollers for roller emission testing (yuck!). I havent gone through that yet (need to fix the CEL first) so I dont know if i'll pass it or not (i have 440cc/min injectors and i run PIG rich! hehe)

the code they pulled from the OBD2 were:

P0403
P0106
P0172

Can anyone translate that to non-obd2-geek terms? Should be rich/egr/battery disconnected the past 15 key turns/etc.

P403 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction
P106 - Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P172 - Fuel Trim too Rich (Bank 1)

Do you have an S-AFC or some other kind of MAP value modifier? It may be tuned a little rich and causing the P106 and P172. Also if you set an S-AFC to the wrong MAP sensor type then it causes problems. If you don't have one(MAP modifier) - you might want to test the MAP sensor. There's not really a test for it in the FSM - just a description of how it operates. But you should be able to test if from the description.

As far as the EGR is concerneed - Did you leave the solenoid hooked up to the ECU? Some people get away with no CEL by keeping the solenoid hooked up and just blocking the ports off...then again, it still causes the 32 for other people. I think the people that it's problematic for is because of how the ECU tests the EGR system - it opens and closes the valve and checks to see how the engine reacts. You may want to try hooking up the solenoid if it is not connected. If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to hook the whole thing up to get rid of the CEL.

I hate cramming for these tests. I'm 2 months overdue right now, just cause I don't want to put the cat in :P

Yeah i have the VC2 which throws a MAP sensor code. I also do have the AFC and yes it is pig rich because i just got myc ar running from having the whole block rebuilt and i have 440cc/min injectors and i have not had time to tune the sucka. I guess its time to go datalogging! ;)

Definately sounds like some tuning is in order. How early is the fuel cut without the clamp? Do you know how high they rev up on they dynos during the test? I'm wondering if you can just turn down the boost and take that VC1 off for the test. I have an idle-redline "just lean of stoich" curve programmed into my SFC that I'm going to use for emissions testing. I'm a bit worried because my Bullfrogs give so much more lift than the stock cams. I think that kind of curve might help for testing purposes.

if you knew anyone at a shop or someone else that has done it. just find a place that does the inspections and you can pay a "waiver fee" :)
