Gonna do this on the new tranny, so the shit doesnt happen again. anything i need to be careful with or is it pretty straight forward and easy?

You may want to hold it in with some brackets instead of welding it. Brackets make life much easier if you want to work on the diff again - like for instance installing a PG, or changing PG springs. i welded the pin. I actually had someone do it for me, i don't weld. It was straight forward. But if i would have known about the brackets i would have gone that route.

pinb rackets 4.20$ each u need too no welding anymore dude

Also remember that you have to trim the tops of the brackets if you don't want to rip up the speed sensor gears.

I have always had trepedations about welding the diff pin. If you are doing a burnout, and the pin thermally expands to "weld" itself to a spider gear, then I think that the pin would have a high chance of breaking anyways, but it would happen somewhere inside of the weld. this could still liberate a spider gear or 2 which would ruin a transmission.

I welded mine as well, but I'd get the brackets if I was you....just in case for some reson you need to take apart your differential. What ever happened to your tranny anyways???

The pin backed out of the tranny.... im just replacing the whole thing. do i just need one bracket? thanks guys.

Damn, I thought that's what happened. Well, if nothing(or not much) was damaged then it wouldn't be a total loss. I'm sure you could sell it to some AT guy who want to swap in a MT. This friggin pin problem is too common for our cars. I wish I had some performance oriented reason to drop the tranny so I can bracket the little bastard in...maybe Santa will get me a PG this Christmas.

Above it was mentioned they needed to be trimmed a little to fit... any idea how much? im new to this messing-with-tranny shit, i live sticking to engines a lot better.. :-)

It will all make sense when you get the tranny open.

The last picture in this link has the trimmed brackets on the diff.

Opening the tranny is cake, getting it back together is a bitch x10
