39505, Check engine light...Help!!!!!
Posted by mitsucar4, Dec-13-02 04:21 PM
Okay, I'm a little pissed right now since I just got a new engine put in and I already have problems. Here's the problem. Normally your check engine light comes on when you turn the key, then it starts right up. I'm having a problem where my check engine light is not coming on and the car won't start!!!! It did when I got it back, but now it doesn't. It will crank, but won't stay on. Has anyone had this problem before. Please help me!!!! TIA

does it crank but won't start or does it fire up and then dies?

It just cranks, won't fire up. It happened when I first left, but then the engine light came on after a few turns of the key and the car turned on. I didn't think to much about it since it turned on, but now the engine light won't come on at all!!!! I'm so close to selling this car, but I know it's not the car that's bad, just the mechanic that did the job.

To answer your question. The car was on the second time then died. After that I couldn't start it anymore.

your not getting any intake backfire are you? how long was it sitting while the engine was replaced?
the PCM should make the CEL light up for about 3sec right after the ignition switch is turned to 'ON'.
if it doesn't its probably, a burnt out bulb, problem with the CEL circuit, or your PCM is bad.

No, there was no backfire. The car was sitting for 4 months while the engine was being rebuilt.

Okay, I checked to see if I have a spark while cranking and I don't. Anyone have any clues?

Try checking to make sure that the ECU wire harness has a good connection to the ECU.

I checked all the ECU plugs and they are fine. I took it to a local mechanic and he says it's my crank sensor. Charging me $140 to do the job. Is that a good price?!?
