39438, THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by tacoman123, Dec-13-02 12:05 PM
I found a new fuel source!!.. Actually, I didn't find it.. its been around for a while.. Anyways, my uncle just came over (he's the coolest uncle :thumbsup , he's an old school tuner, with VWs and Audi in the early 80s ), anyways, he told me that he has been using XXXX for the past few years in his car..
It has an octane over 110, cost less than 50 cents ($0.50) a gallon, and almost has no (zero) emissions..
Now, here's the fun part..
Guess what it is :-) ..

i'm guessing alcohol.. which you won't want to run your car on without modifying it for alcohol. hehe.

I would say toulene but it's like $3-$5 a gallon I think. So I'll have to agree w/ the others. Some kind of alcohol.

Beer was just a lame guess. I thought the same thing right after typing. I don't like beer. I'm not 21. Not familiar with prices. But I figured it was more than 50 cents a gallon. :P He said water was close. Piss? Piss=water and it has wastes in it. Could be shit, since shit hits water, but lets not get into any unnecessary details with that. Shit has octane I think. LOL. Cow shit has methane content.

Here is a link about making a car run on pure water...
http://www.spiritofmaat.com/archive/feb2/carplans_doc.htm
or do a search for Daniel Dingel or Stanley Meyers... 2 guys that have successfully created and driven water powered cars. The patent and proof are being held by the government because they want you to keep driving fuel based vehicles.

He said propane was close, and it is obviously not some type of bodily fluid. At $.50 a gal I am going say Isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing alcohol) or maybe like Ethyl alcohol (face wash, etc) which I think was guessed already. What about hydrogen peroxide??

no,no,no.... wait if >>>>Its propane. This is pretty close
if that's true, I'm thinking something -ane. so perhaps methane, butane. but xtreme rs beat me to that. hmmm... ethanol, methanol, propanol
hydrogen (aaack!)

39477, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by mrlocalpimp, Dec-14-02 11:08 AM
Ok well for some reason he still hasnt told us......
But my question is, if it is something mentioned above thats readily available at 50 cents a gallon, then why arent we using it? There must be a huge downside. He makes it sound like his grandpa uses it with ease and no problems or modifications. THats probably wrong though. SOmeone enlighten me as to why we can't use this stuff. Unless its just that we like paying 1.30+ a gallon of crappy 87 octane?

Wait wait.. Forget about it :-)..
I might make a kit for this.. but I better make the kit first before I tell you guys what it is :-)..
Sorry for getting you guys hyped up.. but remember, there is something like this out there!!..
To answer Mr.LocalPimp's questions.. you do have to do modifications, but that is before throttle body, so it won't be much..
It is readily available, in many places, I know it is in alot of gas stations, when I visit Canada...

today I'm thinking o I can't wait to find out today since I was reading this yesterday and thinking about it all day and came home with a smile and happy to find out what it is but reading this just made me mad, that's not cool what you did
|
39488, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by The1Bill, Dec-14-02 03:43 PM
Natural gas is my guess.
Either compressed natural gas, which has the disadvantage of weight (the tanks are heavy as faaaak)
or Liquified natural gas, which has the disadvantage of not lasting long (it must be stored at a very low temperature).
I don't know which one you are referring to, but I am sure that it is one of them.
LNG is fun, as there are highly insulated tanks that will store the fuel for a week or two before bleeding it out because of it evaporating when the temperature goes up.
Let me know which it is, though... -=B-=

39489, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by tacoman123, Dec-14-02 03:56 PM
Guess who got it?.. BILL :-) ..
It is LPG (Liquid Petrol Gas, Propane w/Butane) and CNG (Natural Gas) gases..
You DO need to make modifications, but its not as "bad" as people think it is..
I'm still learning more from my uncle, who has been running it for a while, in a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY..
The Octane is over 110, has little emission (alot less compared to regular gasoline), and its cheaper..
There are some complications to it, like having it being readily available.. but you can both CNG or LPG and gasoline, but not mixed together..
Actually, if you use a LPG, you start it with regular gas, and hit a toggle switch to switch it to LPG.
I'm still doing more research on it though.. And I got to talk to the Gasman.. who knows everything about gases..

39490, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by The1Bill, Dec-14-02 04:18 PM
WHO'S better then Bill! ;)
The gasman, eh? Funny... sounds like a personal problem. I have explored using one of these fuels, but the availability is what is the problem. Ya just can't get that ish everywhere... -=B-=

all the rednecks back in highschool ran LP on their trucks, they would have a 40 gallon or so tank in the truck bed right behind the cab. i don't think i want a big ass tank on/in my car.

>all the rednecks back in highschool ran LP on their trucks, >they would have a 40 gallon or so tank in the truck bed >right behind the cab. i don't think i want a big ass tank >on/in my car.
You don't have to.. You can take out the stock one, and have two small 5 gallon tanks..
1 for Regular gas.. 1 for LPG or CNG

Awesome... I'm going to make a kit and start selling this to everyone here on the board... thanks for giving me the info, tacoman! LOL :rolleyes
If you have mods that require high octane fuel, then chance's are that you can afford race gas. Go to your local speed shop and buy some. Usually you only need it at the track, so price isn't really a big deal, you won't be buying a lot.
|
39494, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by babybeclipse, Dec-15-02 02:10 AM
Hey man I think It's kool. Don't give him attitude just because he knows a way to run higher boost/compression without having to pay for expensive ass gasoline (racefuel). Hell imagine running 12.5+ compression with ZERO ignition retard or 15psi with little to no ignition retard.
Just because someone has large mods to their cars doesn't mean they have money to blow out their ass for race gas.
|
39495, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by tacoman123, Dec-15-02 06:20 AM
Just wondering..
How many people would be interested in having a LPG or CNG in their car?

39496, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by HiOnPSI, Dec-15-02 02:25 PM
I don't like spending 30 bucks on race gas when i make 3 passes and fuck up my car, like what usually happens.

39498, RE: THE ULTIMATE FUEL.... Posted by thedawg, Dec-16-02 04:04 AM
I'd easily drop $3-4k for a good CNG kit for my eclipse that would let me keep my turbo and all that.
Half the metro bus system out here in Los Angeles is converted to CNG, as well as a good percentage of the taxis and commuter vans. There are lots of new hondas and toyotas running CNG as well. So obviously, CNG is very easy to get here- there's refuelling stations just about everywhere.
The best part- you can drive in the carpool lane by YOURSELF. You'd have to live in LA to appreciate this I think. I've been carpooling with 3 old ladies for the last year and a half (who gasp and scream if I shift at anything over 3k or run a YELLOW light) and it'd be worth a LOT to get rid of them and still be able to get home in under two hours.

TheDawg.. you'll drop $3-4k for a good CNG kit?.. I was thinking of charging a grand (1k) for a LPG kit...
ToTaLEkLyPz99.. you have more chances of blowing up from going too lean than using LPG or CNG :-)..
