39396, Engine problem? Help please!
Posted by RSTsoon, Dec-12-02 02:30 PM
Driving home today I heard a puttering fom under my car and all performance went down all the way, i drove home at a max speed of 10mph and my ECU put out code 43 ignition coil #1 primary circuit, Harness and connector / Ignition coil #1. It drove just fine on the way to work. Oh if it helps in any way, i drove into a ditch a couple days ago, could of knocked something loose? ive checked for leaks by the CAT witha sheet of paper, and none from it, and i think it could be coming from the middle of the piping, but why would code 43 be coming up? Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Oh and my throttle stuck at 3000 when i took my foot of the gas at times.

if water touch the wire you could have a problem. start by testing the ignition and the #1 coil deal. spark plug wire, and plug, and harness of it all...
good luck

I turned the car on and listened to the engine and it sounds like there is a rattleing under the valve cover, possibly a busted piston or rod?(hopefully not) But could that be causing the spittering and sputtering? As well as the ECU 43 code? A friend said he had the same prob and just replaced the spark plugs, but i never heard the rattleing under the valve cover before, sounds like something broke. :(

That rattle might not be a rattle buddy, but just electical sparks jumping from one of your spark plug wires, likely No 1. I had the exact same probblem and that was the sympton. Solution is to make sure rubber part of your wires is not touching any other part of your car that is causing it to ground out. If rattle persists then it may be heat shield.
