39308, tranny help!!!!
Posted by 420aturbo, Dec-11-02 10:15 AM
On the way home from work ttonight my tranny let go! I was at about 45-50 mph in 2nd and shifted quickly into 3rd. After that it jus made noise. A horrible grinding noise and I didn't go any where. The car just revved. So i pulled to the roadside and tried to get it to go again. Nothing. All it did was make the same horrible noise when I was going down the road. The noise was les prominent when th car was idleing and out of gear but was pretty audible when I put it back in gear. When in gear it just revs and does nothing.

There were no symptoms prior to the incident. Any thoughts?

Do you have other gears w/o noise?

It makes noise in all the gears. Doesn't move in any gears, even reverse. Just grinds in all gears, especialy when the clutch pedal is released.

I know that in another thread, they were talking about the symptoms of throwing your diff pin. sounds kinda similar.

Just out of curiousity, if the pin does come out, is it as easy as putting a new pin in, or is there more work involved. Just got a call from my mechanic after swapping to a new block. He says the job is complete except for a noise that seems to be coming from the tranny. I hate when more crap goes wrong... Sorry to steal your thread;-)

if the pin comes out it will knoc a hole in the tranny casing which ruins it most likly....
