39211, Acceleration Question..... Posted by BigBald, Dec-09-02 10:08 AM
I am an idiot when it comes to engine stuff, but i am slowly learning. Can someone tell me which mods help to speed up acceleration? I was told cams and cam gears but the person wasn't sure. I am talking the most immediate gains as i am sure there are a few of them that help overall. Does anyone know off hand?

The first two mods that I would do to any 420a are a cold air intake, and an underdrive pulley. These two would make a great start, and give the car a bit more punch/pep. And a GS-T muffler sounds nice with the cold air intake... hehe... -=B-=

the 2 most obvious mods are 1. nitrous oxide 2. turbocharger

Well I want to do an engine rebuild and I was trying to figure out which end to start with ether top or bottom. I am thinking that a top end rebuild would be more obvious but like i said i don't know to much about engines just yet.

build the top end if you want performance first or if you want to go NA. if your goin to go turbo or nitrous rebuild the bottom end and drop the compression. the bottom gains are minimal depending on what comp. you go with. I think its every comp. you go up you get 5%HP increase. then build the top end if you still think you need it.

If you have some money to toss around, I would start with a bottom end rebuild, and then a turbo kit. That will give you some nice acceleration! -=B-=

I actually want to redo the whole engine first since it has high miles on it. Turbo will be for later on down the road since this is the only car i have for now. Thanks for all the help also. I think i am going to do the top end first then the bottom end a few months after that. Any idea on the labor of a rebuild or how long it should take?

Also, don't forget motor mount inserts. Made the biggest night and day difference, minus the turbo, when I was NA.
