Since there has been ice on the roads, I haven't drieven, but I started the car everyday. I noticed a ticking from the engine as I let it idle. What could it be? It's like 2 ticks per second I'd guess. Sounds like it could be coming from the belts on the passenger side at the bottom. Haven't driven it or looked at it yet. Would belts tick? Or is it probably the spun bearing deal? I haven't checked my oil lately either, but there are no leaks that I can see. Is this common in the cold weather? I have the remote start now, and I have it set to cut off after 12 minutes. I let the car idle for the full 12 last night and it ticked the whole time.

after talking to dualgen, I think it may be an egr leak. or maybe a lifter. I doubt my oil is low. My car has never burned oil, and isn't leaking. I will check it tomorrow b4 driving any.
I heard something about cam gears rubbing the cover. Is this maybe what I have going on? I dunno. Just thinking about possibility. If it would be the bearing- how would the car drive on 8.6:1 for a few months without boost? I will go 2.2 b4 I rebuild it stock. TIA

check your oil, remember its normal for a car to consume oil, who knows where it goes, gets burned up, dripped, blown, evaporate, etc... Most likely it's your valves tickin because it's cold when it gets warm the metals expand, but then again our valves are self adjusting hehe.

Try checking your spark plug cables, can be electric jump, because of a bad cable, it happen to me before.

if it just started when its cold, its your lifters ticking, try 5w-30 instead of 10w-30 should be just fine, could also be piston slap, htey are cold and need to warm up so they expand in hte cylinder, thats part of why the car is slow in hte morning cause the rings/pistons havent expanded all teh way, if you try a compression test when the car is cold it will read way low because of all the compression blowing by the cold rings/pistons

if your noise goes away after the car warms up then its the lifters (change oil will fix that) or piston slap

yeah, I had thought about the piston slap, but I don't think it sounds like this. I have heard the plug wire sound b4 and this isn't it. I am gonna go find out right now since it's daylight. Thanks for all the suggestions.

sounds like it's coming from intake manifold area or something near passenger side. Injectors or something?

I guess it was piston slap. It went away after I drove and the car got hot.

Hey I posted a reponse similiar to this post i think a about a week ago. In cold weather it will be common to hear ticking sounds to be heard from the engine area especially if the vehicle hasn't been driven for a while. If you are running a thicker grade of oil it will take longer to circulate in the engine switch down to 5w-30. However, Once the engine warms up the ticking should go away. **Never try to rev the engine to warm the car faster remeber there is no OIL circulating in the engine." If you are really worried about the ticking noises you buy a aftermarket engine block heater. I saw a couple under JC whitney.com

the car drives fine. ticking while warming up doesn't bother me. I'd rather keep the same weight oil.

have you checked your valves? could be a valve knock/tick
