Hey guys Im wondering about how much an cai will add in hp, I know I read about 8hp from a dyno on this site but that was just with the car at idle. Im thinking you would get more hp driving where the air is being rammed at you, and especially at night.(so maybe 10?) Anyways I went to one of your guys site a while back (dont remember who) and the guy was saying how he removed that little plate where the filter lies so it would create a ram air affect, he said it added like 2..3 hp, would there be an down sides to doing this or doing you guys even know what Im talking about?

i know exactly what you are talking about. i drove around without my corner black thingy (this is the tech term) off for a while but then i realized that i would have to clean my air filter about once a month with out it. its a huge pain in the ass to clean too because you have to get under the car just to remove the damn thing. i think it would add a couple hp at speed tho.

with a short ram or a cold air . i think when the car is in motion the air moving around the engine is doing so more freely and with more pressure... with that in mind when u dyno they use a fan .. but the fan hardly simulates a 50+ mph wind so i would think at speed it would be a smig more than a dyno .. this is only of course when dynoing an intake nothin else

I removed those before I had the Cold air just for looks. And when I got the cold air that's how I ran it. So I don't know about the difference, but you do get a nice ram air effect at speed. I rotate the filter a evry couple of weeks, but yes it get DAMN DIRTY!!! So I'll be clweaning often... Oh well it's worth it to me. I'll clean it right before the shoot out. Downsides? None that I see.

I did that too with my CAI. I also removed the wheel well to so that there is more of a flow to it. Michael is right though. It gets DAMN dirty. I try to prolong not cleaning it by turning it 180 degrees. Only one side gets dirty because of how the air comes in.

yeah I figured that it would get pretty dirty, but tell me this how do you guys clean those filters?

K/N Filter Cleaner kit. You can buy it from your local auto parts shop for like $10. It's good for more than one application too. Just follow the directions in there.

The 95-96 Talons don't have the plastic cover thing so i had no choice. The only problem I think is that wouldn't it get more wet when it's raining without the plastic cover thing? So far, I've had the same problem with the dirt. But unless your boosted, everybody should have an open CAI.

That is funny you should post this subject...I just removed the "black thingys" on Wed. of this week. I did it for looks but I think at 60+ mph it would have to make a difference.

I cleaned mine with just a bucket of water and detergent, just let it soak for an hour and then shook all the shit off it. what is so special about the K&N cleaning kit.

how bout you do the thing with the wally mart dryer hose. like tape it on your filter at one end and then take or screw the other end to the front end in some hole, like where the FMIC would go. than you'd have a true ram air intake, plus cold air :)

Well, I sure hope you re-oiled the filter after you cleaned it. That is part of the K&N kit too. Vital for the filter to work

injen came out with a new splash guard for their intakes. go to their web site www.injen.com, it's under construction, but they have a pic of the intake w/ the guard on the page. do you think this would solve the dirt problem, while still being able to leave the black thing off, or would it be defeating the purpose? by the way, if anyone here has an injen CAI, do you know if the aem bypass valve fits on it, or is their anything else like the bypass vale that fits on it?

Measure the Outside diameter of your Ijen intake and see if AEM makes a valve to accomadate the size. I think there would have to be a size that would fit.

Here's what I did when I had my CAI. I used that ghetto cold air mod on the 2GNT board. Worx great! Then I fabricated a plexiglass shield for the bottom side of the bumper. I attached it by drilling holes in the plexiglass that matched the bumper, then attached it using the bolts on the bumper and some on the mud guards. The CAI worked great, never got extremely dirty, water never effected my car, and it acted as a net just incase my filter would fall off, gave me some peace of mine. I have lost a HKS filter also! :P I'll upload pix later.

So with all that said in done what are your guys best guess to total hp output from the cai?(with mod and 60+ speeds)
