38958, Help Me Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by NX112, Dec-06-02 04:29 AM
Ok here's the problem; I was merging from one freeway to another and I down shifted from 5th to 4th and forth was no longer there. I slowed down near my destination and found no 2nd either. then i got to my parking spot and over shot the line and found out no reverse.
So no 4th, 2nd, or reverse but 1st, 3rd, and 5th no problem. The gears that work engage fine just not the above mentioned. It's about a 4 month old tranny new clutch and i truly believe it has to do with the shifter because i try to throw it into 2nd, 4th, and reverse and it just kinda floats, the shifter doesn't stay where the gear is. Any immediate help would be spectacular I'm sick of not having all of my gears.
I already searched as well and this is as close a problem as mine sounded: http://forums.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID13/7207.html

look at the shifter linkage. sounds to me like it broke or came off. There are just pins holding them on so it is very likely the could breake or rattle loose

Try checking the shift cables on the transmission. There are 2 of them and they're right on top of the transmission. You can see one pretty easy. There's one under the battery tray that's a little harder to see. They clip on with cotter pins. Maybe one came off?

pulll your center console, and see if the black cylinder peice is still connected closer to the firewall on the shifter cables..
if it isnt, the cable will bend, and not let you shift into 2/4/R...
good luck.. a lil jb weld, and some precise placement of it will fix it, just dont get any on the cable....

It was the linkage, except it was in the engine bay and a pain in the ass to get to. I thought i broke my hand for a minute fixing it but she's all better now. thanks to everybody again you all have gotten + feedbacks.
