38918, Manual tranny problem/question
Posted by bullox, Dec-05-02 04:59 AM
Okay, I know absolutely nothing about trannies, and this has been bugging me for a while...

When I go to throw it in reverse, it seems like there is a "step" before it is actually in gear. Like a notch before the notch. If I get stuck on that first notch and try to let off the clutch to go, it just makes a nasty buzzing/scratching sound and goes nowhere (obviously not in gear, but not completely out of it either).

Is this a clutch problem or a problem with my reverse gear? This only happens in reverse.

TIA :thumbsup

proably the ghey shifter bushings grab a shifter bushing kit and upgrade them u usually if moving back ward for some reason, push clutch in move shifter into 1st then 2nd real quick and then when it hits reverse its smooth, if that dont work u have to release the clutch jsut a little till u can slip it into gear..

Well, the reverse gear isn't syncronised, so it can be, well, interesting, to get it into reverse. I have seen a lot of other 2GNTs where reverse engagement is, uh, interesting, mine included. All I can recommend is to re-bleed the clutch hydraulics and pedal engagement and see if that helps.

when i have trubles gettin her in gear, just keep the gear shifter in the middle/neutral position, and let off the clutch, and press all the way down on the clutch again...

u cud try o bleed it a lil more like bill said, just make sure you have the clutch all the way down, and there is nothing behind the pedal blocking it...

have you checked your tranny fluid level??? may be low....

good luck
