3885, 420a durability? Posted by craigd887, Jun-22-01 02:52 AM
how long do these guys generally last? i've heard they're durable then ya have all these guys rebuildin so it's like wtf? i hvae 108k on mine, i do oil regularly cause ya know it's OIL. but i plan on boostin between christmas this year or this comin march by then i'll be around 140k should i go for a rebuild before boostin, i was always told to be safe about it when it comes to engines. my dad's a grease monkey so go figure, he gets his jollies off of watchin your oil pressure climb. so whats up?

the 420A, if properly maintained, will last upwards of 250K miles. If you want to be safe, do a compression check to check your ring wear and valve seals, and if it's within spec, turbo away. I turbo'd mine at 96K miles, 104K on it now, no problems.

They are a durable motors. BUt at 140k I would rebuild before boost... then you can do it with stregnthened internals and crank the boost a little higher.. drop compression etc.
I think most of the guys rebuilding are rebuilding becaus ethey want to boost more.

its ok to boost with that many miles.........i would however change the stock clutch if you already havent...do a compression check and change the Head gasket
