So my clutch started enganging about an inch away from the floor. I check the resivior and empty - i fill, bleed and I get no resistance. I look under the car and no leaks then look up near the clutch and there - a leak. The boot that covers the shaft is leaking from there. I did a search and found that people use the rebuild kit which is what I'm gonna buy. How hard or easy is it to take off the master cylinder and replace it? Thanks

its not all that hard.. u have to take out a buncha things to get to it tho..

its tough to get tot he bolts that are holdin it in place, and the cotter pin that is chillen is a pain in the ass too...

the chiltons has several decent pix, and the FSMs helpd too...

good luck, id say, rip her apart one day, get the master cylinder, replace whats needed over night, and put back together in the mornin...

That's all well and good, but it sounds like a slave cylinder. The master cylinder is bolted to the clutch pedal, and the slave cylinder is bolted to the transmission. I only think this because I don't remember the master cylinder having a rubber boot...

Okay I took the master cylinder out, broke it down and sprayed it with brake cleaner. There were no visible leaks or cracks so I put it back together and it worked. No leaks so far
