i was thinking about getting my brother a chip for his 97 mannual tranny rs for xmas. he has bored tb, greddy header, aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket intake & thats it.. we live in cali and i heard something about having to run 93 or higher octane? we only got 91 octane; is it posiible to survive with 91 or a bad idea? i think there is two guys that have it on this board..what do you think? thx

"- Requires 93 octane fuel (at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.) or octane booster."

That's a common line next to all the afx ecu's on howell's site so it would be a good assumption that applies also to the 97 talon/eclipse afx ecu. This thing as I said b4 it is complete badass, and I would be really scared to try anything less then 93 in it because of it's crazy timing advance. Unless ur up for buying octane booster everytime u fill up... u might be stuck. Then again this is just my guess, I would call up howell and ask them what kind of damage u possibly might run into with 91 gas.
