ive got everything ready to go for assembly on my jeep tb. im piecing it together, but i cant seem to figure out how the jeep spring gives the proper tension. can someone tell me specifically what goes in the slot on the base and which end is attached to the shaft or a diagram would be awesome? thanks alot guys.

There is a big section in there explaining how the spring is "backwards". The bent part should be agains the spring stop on the shaft, and the straight part fits into the "divot" on the base of the TB. There is a picture of how the spring is supposed to be put on the shaft, but it is little - so here's a bigger picture of it. Notice also how the spring seat is cut away - allowing the spring to slide easily onto the seat. That part is VERY important to get the proper tension.

thanks jim. i read your writeup, i guess i just missed that picture. i installed the spring like shown, and to get the right spring tension you have to rotate the straight part of the spring towards the divot in the base, correct? the only concern i have is that the spring is now deformed when i take it off. but it shouldnt hurt anything i think.

Yes you are correct.

About the spring deformation, mine is deformed as well. As long as you have cut the spring seat away enough so that the spring slides easily into position(just like the above picture), without gripping onto the spring seat, then the spring will give you plenty of tension. No need for concern, that deformation shouldn't hurt anything.

I am having problems with my Jeep TB again. At first I was having major problems but that was due to a worn out TP sensor. My spring is just too weak. It will slap the plate shut but it sticks some times. I want a spring that is super strong with wide coils.

Since the spring is kinda weak I put some slack in the throttle cable so it would close better and wouldnt stick. But now there is so much slack in the cable when i floor the car the TB plate only opens about 3/4th of the way. I want a super strong spring so i can tighten up the throttle cable a little.

Anybody selling one or can make me one?

i think mine is the same way.. i've been thinking, what if we dont seperate the 2 springs? that are banded together as it comes right off the jeep

If you don't seperate the springs, then it won't fit on the TB. The spring ends up being too thick for the space you're trying to put it in.

After over a year of just running the Jeep spring, mine got too weak to work well. I ended up installing a little helper spring and its very good. Better than the single Jeep spring ever was. One end is attached to the end loop of the Jeep spring where it attaches to the throttle shaft, and the other end is secured by one of the IAC bolts.
